It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

This is pretty much an Aberdeen strip from the 80's, so I'm on this. Calling @Skacel!

Edit - purchased as well! Hopefully they do the Mogwai one next. It's already designed, so it just needs to be produced.

I would be in for a Mogawai. Between them and Battles for the loudest show I’ve ever been to.

Oh by the way remember the Fontaines sponsored Bohemians kit?

It made €12k for a homeless charity in central Dublin! How awesome is that!

That’s awesome!! It’s a great shirt, I wear it often

Which one did you go with? I went with the classic shirt without the sponsor. T-Sad seems like an odd thing to explain to someone who asks 😂

There’s a very good chance. I believe they are Scotland based and have done Pulp, Frightened Rabbits, and now The Twilight Sad. I would buy Mogwai, Teenage Fanclub, Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura, etc. there’s so many they could do.

It's basically a take on the 1983 Aberdeen Cup Winners Cup strip, as well as a take on an old Aberdeen sponsor - A-FAB. I have a replica of it, so I went with the sponsor one to differentiate between the two.

The Frightened Rabbits one was class, and the quality was excellent. Feels like the link just now is with Tiny Changes, their charity.

Ah TIL! Yeah I hate paying that much but I think all of the proceeds outside of manufacturing etc go to the charity so I don’t mind.

Yeah, it feels like a charity donation with a wee bonus to me, and it's kind of on a par with real life strips.

Would be interested to see if they do more Scottish bands in the future - agree with your choices, and I think they could do something like the Spurs third strip with someone like Chvrches.

Aye, James Graham is a Dons fan for his sins. Thinking about it, haven't purchased just yet.

Twilight Sad kits are live from Bands FC.

I can’t say I’ve ever listened to the Twilight Sad before. Maybe I should start so I could grab one of these. I don’t think they’ll go as quickly as the Frabbits one
Definitely check out The Twilight Sad, they are great!

Its a sweeping generalisation that id not want to make wholesale. But Burnley is an a former industrial town that’s largely been in decline since the late 80s. It has higher than average levels of poverty and so has had flirtations at electoral level with far right politicians. Also some tit that supports them flew a plane with an anti-BLM message over one of their matches during lockdown. That said as a club they do great community work aimed at promoting diversity.
I thought it was famous for its high teenage pregnancy rate arountd the NW.

EDIT: I did it. $83 shipped 🥴🥴🥴

It does look smart, switch the red for blue and you’ve almost got something that would pass for the early 80s St Johnstone top.

Both this and the FRabbits one were for great causes but just couldn’t bring myself to get either for football reasons.

Edit: Sadly my replica is a medium from skinny days, not an XL like I would need now.

I hear you. I know it's for charity but there's no fucking way I'm buying a Celtic themed Mogwai shirt.

so many Scots in here! Completely understand it being impossible to buy a rival kit even if it's for a band.

Funnily enough I bought a Rangers kit on Classic Football Shirts last summer because it was so cheap, like £20. Hummel kits are tight and the Large is a little too snug for me so I never wear it. I was thinking of eventually getting a Celtic kit too, as I was supposed to travel to Scotland last year but Covid got in the way. I later learned about the rivalry and how you'd get attacked or jeered if you wound up in the wrong side of town wearing a rival shirt (mostly Rangers fans from what I have also seen). I grew up Catholic as well so Celtic do seem like the side I should align with in Scotland anyways.

Yeah, it's probably not the best idea to wander about Glasgow in a football top. For example, the Barrowland Ballroom is in a Celtic area. I went to see Mogwai there on an old firm game day and the place was full of Celtic fans. I could just imagine you rocking up there in a R*ngers kit

Went to a gig at St Lukes a few years back, a couple of hundred metres from the Barrowlands with some Celtic pubs in between. My pal and I were the only ones cheering in the bar area beforehand as Saints set about beating Celtic in Perth in the evening’s televised game.

Taking the home end. Love it.

If you want a truly hipster Glasgow football strip go for this. Play in one of the weekend leagues, but their strip is a belter:

Have to admit that I got the Tiny Changes Frightened Rabbit strip, which is basically a Hearts strip. Was comfortable putting my football affiliations to the side for charity. Also, I thought that no-one would see me wearing it in Melbourne that cared, so I was safe!

Those are very cool with the city grid on them!
