It was an exceptional group of talents, but not really a balanced team, and the press piled the pressure onto them. He got it particularly bad because he’s probably the most talented teenage footballer I’ve ever seen, he arrived at 16 as a freakish man boy and had absolutely no fear. At that age he was head and shoulders above Ronaldo in the same team, he just burned out much quicker.
Equally he’s no angel and his problems on and off the pitch have as much to do with a serious self destructive streak as they do with pressure and the press.
