It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Totally and even as a Belgian it’s dodgy ground. They’re a small nation that gets a good team every second or third generation. They ain’t one of the big boys that’s going to be in group 1 permanently, bar the ocassional fuck up.
but to argue a little in his regard, he is an injury-prone player in a a league with an already tight schedule and could probably need to sit some games out and with his "golden " generation turn in the belgium team nearing an end ( age-wise) without any big title to show they might be more inclined to get one last push for an euro or fifa title in instead of competing for the less prestigious nations league
Edit: Adiidtionally, players would probably would also complain about friendlies at the same time-slot. In a normal season after the cl finale and the big seasons ending ecveryone would go for vacation. This year they have another ound of national team games and an earler start to the next season due to the dumb scheduling of a tournament in november

True but equally if it means that little to Belgium in that regard he talks to Martinez and get managed through the two fixtures for the greater prize. Belgium will be glad of the tournament when he’s gone and they drop down to div 2 or 3 and are scrabbling for qualification. Plus it’s got to be preferable than being flow to Australia or China or the Middle East to play an actual meaningless friendly against the highest bidder?

in those it would probably easier for him to sit ou due to "injury" . A couple of years ago there was an england - germany friendly in Berlin and a couple of friends went ( i passed because i did not want to pay that much). Both teams played B-squads and had an abysmal games so everyone in attendance was just pissed. that seems to happen less witin the nl moniker

Totally. What used to happen with England is start with a strong team but all 11 swapped which was worse because any momentum would be killed. Plus some really odd players got pretty undeserved caps on what felt like a lucky dip basis.

Arsenal rumors are starting to get crazy. I'm going to get excited just to be let down. I just know it....

I fucking hate transfer rumour silly season. It’s just such bollocks. Every year the same nonsense links to players that were never on the Radar, Nicholas Gaitan and Esquiel Garay I’m looking at you…

Serbian Fellaini from Lazio seems to have been that nonsense link with us the last few years.

Roll on the window being shut and the matches being back.

Not seeing the point of this uefa nations league...all our players look knackered
if you think about it, some of these players haven't really had an extended break since the Covid lockdown in early 2020. Project restart and the like in 2020, longer than usual 20/21 season with Euros right after and then straight into another long season... followed up immediately with these dumb Nations League games. If the World Cup was this summer these players would die

It’s an international window! It always has been! It’d be friendlies otherwise!

The World Cup should be starting right now. Instead we’re sending it to a repressive regime based on oil money and playing it in winter. If you think the players are fucked now just wait until May/June 2023.
