January Challenge - The Music Awakens…

January 21: The Rise of Skywalker – Choose a triumphant or hopeful track.

I've likely told the story a coupla times here, but this soundtrack means a ton to me. I went to go see this movie first run when I was a just a lad. A friend and his older sister invited me, and I didn't even know what it was.
I loved the movie itself for as much as my young brain could understand, but man, the music hit me then, and it still does now. That was my first experience with movie and music combo giving one a sublime experience.

January 22: Kyber Crystals – Play something that was hard to find.

Looked for a copy of this one for a bit. Took a while to find the right balance of condition to price but eventually landed a really sweet copy for a pretty ridiculous (in this current market) $30.

What an incredible, underappreciated artist...

January 18: The Dark Side Beckons – Sinister, give me sinister.

Mercury Rev's take on this Bobbie Gentry classic leans into the southern gothic sound, with a different female vocalist lead on each track. Lucinda Williams delivery on Ode to Billie Joe is especially effective.

Been looking for this one since it was put in the jukebox here years back, so good!

This took me a couple of months to track down at a reasonable price a number of years ago. I can't find the price, but I think it was under $100 due to the 'pizza box' outer cover being damaged.

Still easier to find than mining in the Crystal Cave on Ilum though.

Chris Cornell - Songbook (RIP, Champion)

Highly sought after show recording, and rightly so. Would have been incredible to attend. Too many things (good and bad) can be said about it knowing what we know now, but that also adds to the allure (I suppose). I'm not one to believe artists' work should be worth more when they're gone, at exactly their intended time or prematurely. Nevertheless, spinning this show captures an intimate look at a loving/caring soul that was also troubled more than most realized, and of course we know how the story ended.
