Jazz

Great find! A really decent title as well, I would have preferred "Misterioso" personally (because I don't have any haha) but this is a fantastic album!

I will end up ordering I think. I have a '58 pressing (2nd I guess) which has a bit of noise annoyingly so this will be great.

Any idea when its up for pre-order?
Think announcement Tuesday? Not sure if it will be on sale immediately or advanced ordering for their email list

Yikes - though with VMP many have found their customer service to be pretty terrific in responding. Good luck - and welcome back to the US!
thanks...yes VMP handled it well, the only thing being they can't QC the shipment before sending and I doubt ill received them before I take off, so hopefully these won't be warped. Craft said no go, 60 days limit...a years worth of record deliveries to clean is quite the task!

Really pains me to say this as I disagree with their blatant manufactured scarcity policy BUT the 12on12 "Swizz Beatz – Long Live Jazz" sounds fantastic.

I played it for the first time this weekend and was blown away by the quality of the sound. Really dynamic, punchy drums, and clear bass. It might just be one of the better sounding records in my collection (I need to give it another proper listen to confirm).

I picked up the Swizz Beats and the Smiley when they came up in the VMP swaps and glad I did. Would I pay the $113 and $173 prices they had them listed at (madness).....no. But if it comes up in the VMP swaps again, I recommend it!

Yea I got it in swaps and it does sound great, especially for a comp. It’s definitely digitally sourced.

Charlie kept playing with his jazz band up until he died , he has a huge collection of drum kits as well from lots of great jazz drummers from the 50’s on- Jazz was his passion .
This was just a small selection! Have a look at the link, plenty of Charlie Parker acetates, Ella Fitzgerald acetates, signed Louis Armstrong posters/handbills, etc

He's mentioned quite often in biographies of British jazz musicians as he started off in a few London-based groups.

I think he lived next to Dave Green as a child (British bassist that was part of the Don Rendell Ian Carr Quintet and is still playing - I saw him live last year!) and hes mentioned a lot in Jon Hiseman's (of Colosseum) autobiography because of the connection with Alexis Korner and Graham Bond.

One hell of a gent from what I've read.

Yeah, I’ve heard how generous and humble he was from a lot of drummers in various interviews and podcasts. He was a real gentleman.
So, I'll tell you a brief story. Years ago - maybe 20 years ago - I went out on a Sunday night around 7pm to the local supermarket around the corner. At the checkout line in front of me was an older guy, very well dressed in pressed slacks, a shirt and cardigan. Unusual on a Sunday night, but I kept looking at him as I felt I knew him but couldn't place him. He noticed this and turned around to smile a couple of times.

He got to the cash, paid for his stuff, and as he picked up his bag turned and said to me in a lovely English accent "Have a nice evening".

Only when I got to my car did I connect that it was Charlie Watts, and the Stones were rehearshing for an upcoming tour in the area.

New spiritual jazz comp from Jazzman coming out soon!

While a lot of stuff on these releases, I personally wouldn’t call Spiritual Jazz, they are full of quality music and well worth having.
Guys, its literally called "Not Spiritual Jazz" :ROFLMAO:

Im messing, but these really are fun sets. Annoyingly the earlier ones go for crazy money now. I saw a copy of Vol 7 (I think, it was the Islam title) in a local shop with a £100 price tag o_O

Really with they would repress some of the earlier ones. The first few got repressed but I didn’t pick them up when I had a chance. Think I own 7 or 8 of them now.
