Let's See What Makes Your Vinyl Spin!

Really impressed with the new AT cart so I thought let's tinker with the JBLs.
First order of business, removed the foam covers.
Sounds like new tweeters and mids. Doubt these covers are going back on unless some small children come over or something.

Next decided to toe in just a bit. This goes against the JBL manual but wow this sounds better to me.

Couple of free tweaks but I like the change up.

Nice space by the way. That's a badass cozy listening spot. Love it.

I haven't but ONLY because my room correction already kinda of does that through the amp so I left everything normalized. However when I get the new gear in I will probably play around with it a bit. Have you?
I haven't really.
I need to get my bearings on it a little more.
Now the covers are off, I won't be able to resist touching them knobs.

I've seen a few reviews that said the high and mid adjustments were a cool feature but in most cases they preferred them centered.. But again, these are reviewers listening in perfectly tuned spaces, so I'm sure there could be some benefits for us peasants.

I am pretty much at the point all tone controls stay turned off on the amp and I bypass all the digital circuitry within the Denon. I use to think this was a weak setting but no treble and bass adjustments sounds really perfect as better gear has set in.

JBLs are at zero dB. I can't really see adjustments at the speaker anyway the more I think about it. They salute WTF the Denon signal says to do anyway.

OMG this ART9 is jaw dropping gorgeous listening right now.
AT deems it reference and they are not lying. Keep it on your short list.

For some reason the ART9 seems to have vanished up here, I'm not sure if they're preparing for a new launch or what. But I've inquired about the VPI Shyla (pretty sure this is the ART-9) so I'm just waiting on what price they can give me. That and the Koetsu Black Goldline. We shall see.

Make sure to look at ART9XI and XA.
ART9 is probably the previous gen.

For sure, yes I'm kinda searching all of them and there are a few places that seem to have them but all the authorized dealers don't really seem to have them listed anymore. Up until quite recently they all did. So it's a bit odd, but could just be some stock quirk. I'm going to keep looking though since even at the new higher price the Art 9 XI is still less expensive than the Shyla so I'd rather go that route if at all possible. Still sussing it all out.

Gonna do the whole upgrade in one shebang, I assume?
Well I actually don't really want to. I'd like to hear the differences as I add. But I suspect I'll actually have no choice but to do it slightly gradually because I think the Halo JC3+ is likely to be very delayed. The whole continent is still awaiting new units from the plant. So that could be months. Aaaand I still probably have like 500 hours left on my 2M Black so I don't really need to upgrade the cart yet. But as with most of my upgrades I'm doing it quickly because I don't know when this hookup will end. If my cousin leaves his job I go from paying half price on most of this gear, to full. So I'm kinda racing to get to my basic end game point while I have the chance to do it at low prices. I actually prefer to go one piece at a time and enjoy the changes. Because the upgrades are part of the fun and maxing everything out right off the hop would just leave me missing out on the fun of hearing everything change as the system moves up the line.

EDIT- Hilarious. The SECOND I posted this I got an email saying the distributer got a JC3+ in, but it's the black, and would I like that instead of waiting on the silver. DECISIONS.

Easy. Black.

YOU ARE GIVING UP ON THE ORT? (good man)

Just out of curiosity, what ruled out the Bryston for you? I like it but understand it's not the right choice for everyone, even in Canada!

Honestly, availability. All the places I had access to dealer pricing and trade in ability didn't have it. And as boring as that is and as much as I'd like to pick from any unit on the market, when I'm getting 50% off units this expensive I kinda have to go with that. I was willing to wait on the stage and go full price if I couldn't find something that worked for me but the Halo checked all the boxes so I decided it made the most sense in this case. I have heard nothing but amazing things about Bryston and I'd love to have some in my system, but when the TT upgrade suddenly turned into a TT and stage upgrade I just had to follow the money on the stage side of things this time around.
