So did you use pool noodles without backing on the shelves? I'm thinking of going that route myself...any tips/hints would be welcome!

I stole the idea from @Kris but I got black pool noodles from Amazon, cut them 1/4" over the size of the square and just wedged them in there. One noodle did 3 or 4 blocks, I can't remember

I'm curious on how it connects as I don't have a back to my shelf.

yeah pool noodles are cheap, but I was maybe going to get a gray or black noodle for my gray shelf

In my case, the kallax is close to the wall, so I just push the noodle back until it hits the wall, no adhesive necessary. Also, since I was at a dollar store, my noodles are blue, but they're covered up, so it's ok.
 
So with the pool noodles, do you slice them in half lengthwise too (to create half circle) or just cut to length and shove in?
