Day 4: An album from your senior year of high school

The Mars Volta - Amputechture

I graduated high school in spring '07, so I started it in fall '06. I still remember vividly driving to HMV after school early in the year with my friend Josh in my first car, a baby blue Ford Contour, to pick up this album and Mastodon's Blood Mountain, on CD, when my brakes suddenly started failing. Still got the CDs, though.

I only have one album that came out while I was in my senior year of high school and I was so excited to buy it the day it came out. I have several cd copies. But this album did not click with me until I stupidly fell in love in 2004 and then it was like whoa.

Love that album. Need to grab one but probably best to wait for a reissue cash wise

Lorde - Pure Heroine

Released in September of my senior year and become the soundtrack to that whole year. Having an album released by an artist who was the exact same age as me (both born in 1996) singing songs that perfectly captured all the anxieties i had at that age become so important for me. Not only that but her personally as the slightly awkward outsider was very similar to how i felt at the time so i really related to this album

Pavement is a band that I grew into. In Junior High it was Weezer that really pulled Pavement into my consciousness, When Weezer broke many reviewers used Pavement as a touchtone and rightly so. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain and The Blue Album were certainly cut from the same cloth but outside of Crooked Rain I really didn’t pay much attention to Pavement until Terror Twilight was released as their swan song just after my Junior year of high school concluded. I remember reading the write ups in both Spin & Rolling Stone and feeling drawn to the release for some reason, I recall picking up the CD at Best Buy at some point in the middle of the summer. It was an album I would revisit frequently throughout my Senior Year.

Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030

The most important albums from my senior year are Radiohead's Kid A and Amnesiac, but I don't have them on vinyl yet because I'm waiting for the 20th anniversary release later this year. So, I'm going with this blast of retro-afrofuturism from Deltron Zero and Automator. This album overlaps with Handsome Boy Modeling School and Gorillaz's debut albums in having great Dan the Automator production and raps from Del, but this is my favorite of the three albums.

I also could have put it under "albums that make me laugh," because the skit about how awesome Strange Brew is always makes me giggle.
