May 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge - A Crash Course for the Ravers

Day 11: Space Oddity
I’m stepping through the door / and I’m floating in a most peculiar way
Play an album about being ‘lost’

An Autumn for Crippled Children - Lost

Went with a pretty straightforward one. But I thought one of the tracks also fit the inspiring song for the day well too: "Tragedy Bleeds All Over The Lost."

Stars - No One is Lost

One of my favorite Stars records, and per Wikipedia the album is very much about loss:

The album's recurring themes of mortality and loss were inspired the cancer diagnosis of longtime manager Eoin O'Leary during the writing process. Torq Campbell explained the album's title further: "This record’s called No One Is Lost because that is a fucking lie. We are all lost, we are all going to lose this game and, as you get older, you lose people more and more. I just wanted to close my eyes and jump and hope that was true. Life is loss, love is loss. And loving people is about accepting that you're going to have to say goodbye to them. And that's why it's fucking brave. That's Stars ethos: this life is very heartbreaking and sad... so let's get completely fucking arseholed and listen to some Dionne Warwick"

I saw this on a Reddit page (that I found looking on google because I couldn’t come up with anything at first) recommending albums if you like music about feeling lost in your late teens/early 20s. As someone who was in his late teens when this album came out and played it a lot in 2016, it kind of fits…

Sorry I haven't been around the challenge thread lately. I hope to get back in the groove.

I happened to be spinning this one and it seems to fit today's theme...

Day 12 - Ashes to Ashes
Do you remember a guy / that's been In such an early song?
Play a record connected in some way to the record you played yesterday
today was quite tricky unless I played another record by that artist as he is on his own label and does everything himself...then I flipped the cover over and bingo..

little did I know I would find a link between the two, an artist that usually plays at 150 cap venues that rarely sell out and the fab 4

THE RED HOT RAY BROWN TRIO - with Gene Harris and Mickey Roker

Yesterday I posted a Monty Alexander album with Ray Brown on bass; today it's a Ray Brown Trio album. This is one of those audiophile 45 RPM pressings, which is neat. However, flipping the record over and over drives me batty :cautious:

Going with one that's on the nose - and something that can easily be connected with what I play next...
