MoFi UltraDeck / StudioDeck Owners and those interested

A question about the frequency for changing the belt . My deck will be 2 years old next spring . I check the speed once in a while using a phone app and it has been running at the correct speed . Like a lot of people I give the platter a nudge to help it get up to speed . Some of you have had your decks long enough to consider a new belt . I think I read somewhere the recommendation was 2 to 3 years . My local dealer is no more as they said MOFI changed their dealer network and they no longer are a dealer . Closest dealer is now around 3 hours away which is a pain

I used to change mine and clean/lube the bearing annually.

Can you pay over the phone or online and have the dealer mail the belt?

I checked my speed, lubricated the bearing, checked again, and decided to leave my belt as is. I’ll replace it when it starts measuring askew.

I would like to hear the thoughts of you folks, about something I have been thinking about. I own a StudioDeck, and I am happy with it.

Now, I am a financial consevative person, which can be very good at times. However that led me to getting the StudioDeck instead of the UltraDeck. And I have being considering of actually getting the UltraDeck. It is not really a big upgrade, rather a sidewards move and only slightly up.

I do find the UltraDeck a very handsome turntable.

Do you people out there think I would notice an improvement in my music listening experience, or would the difference be too small. Just interested in your reasoning.

Hi Andreas! Biggest question is, what does the rest of your system look like?

I had the StudioDeck for a couple of weeks , but there was an issue of some damage , so replaced it with the UltraDeck . I like the feel and look of the Ultradeck and the cart that came with it was much better . Hard to say if I found an earth shattering difference . As noted , I think it depends on what the rest of your system is like and if the Ultradeck is a major step up over the other components , and if you will be upgrading the rest of the system over time . The context is important . The thing that I found made a major difference that I could hear was the replacement of power cables , connections and putting roller bearing under component's and Gaia isolation under the speakers . Everyone's experience will be different . Just don't get drawn down the rabbit hole too far .

Yeah, just updated my signature. I have also being considering of upgrading my components one after over the next few months/ years but that is something for another time.
I'm a current StudioDeck owner who spent a day with an UltraDeck in one of my systems - the one with the Decware tube amp shown in my signature.
The UltraDeck definitely has more isolation with more to the plinth and a bigger platter. I've acoustically always found Delrin to be quite dry, on the darker side, and dampened, so for me, the extra isolation wasn't something I found necessary. The Cardas wiring in the UD, that's for sure a plus. Same length arm, but the UD has improved bearings and material composition. It did not strike me as a night and day difference from the SD, but again, only spent a day with it.
From a tactile standpoint, the UD definitely has a bit of a more robust feel in your hands, but it doesn't by any means make the SD feel cheap in any way. Motor is the same in both, if I'm not mistaken, and a hell of a good one at that. No speed controller and it is bang on to my ear.
Though they came into play at different times, ultimately I own and am very happy with my StudioDeck, and never have a situation where I say, gee you know the UltraDeck would really shine on X record in comparison to the SD, so I think that may hopefully answer your question/tame the tiger. I think @Static Shock is right in not to get pulled into the rabbit hole too far! The MoFi decks have a distinct voice, and it is firmly on display in both decks.

He’s here! It’s too late to warn about the damn rabbit hole!!!
