I'm not surprised. I'm trying to see it in 70mm IMAX in Manhattan and every showing is full this week starting at 10am until 11pm. This weekend it will get bumped from IMAX screens for Thunderbolts.Sinners only dropped 6% over last weekend. Made 45 million this weekend. 161 globally so far. Had to watch it again this weekend so we went to an IMAX show yesterday.
That really sucks given 70mm IMAX is a rarity. This weekend it will get bumped from IMAX screens for Thunderbolts
Secretly one of his top 3 best movies.Caught David Lynch's The Straight Story on 35mm in town this weekend. Holy moly. I'd seen it before when I was a teenager on tv (I want to say on the Disney channel, but it may have been IFC), but it absolutely bowled me over this time around. The words I'm looking for are "emotionally overwhelming."
When I was younger I considered it an outlier in his filmography simply for the directness of the plot, but he's totally present in every frame of that film. There's even [ominous whooshing] over a shot of a grain elevator. You can sense the transcendental meditator in it; I especially love the part where the camera pans from the lawnmower up to the clouds, holds, then comes back down and he's barely moved down the road. The soft whooshing of the cyclists going by is also so wonderful.Secretly one of his top 3 best movies.
Saw Sinners yesterday. Let me be the one millionth person to tell you...it was fuckin awesome! Some great music to.
