N&G Secret Santa 2022

I've done 11 before and had a great time, but 30 would be too much!

I mean, 11 was probably too much but it was during my experimental hippie raver days on private property surrounded by friends and dancing to a live 5.1 surround psytrance set and with no responsibilities for the next two days other than a DJ set 18 hours later so YOLO, I guess. 🤫

just had my day absolutely MADE when my secret santa package arrived this evening. @Sonicpharmacist's got the perfect prescription!

first of all, the polvo record was a big one from my want list—after having missed out on the original limited pressing, I'd been going back and forth about $helling out for a used copy for YEARS. (i'll never forget passing on the copy on the wall of poo-bah records in pasadena!). they're a band i never tire of, and whose records i always find something new in, even though i've been listening for more than half my life at this point! this will get many spins.

on the other hand, tindersticks is a band i should be familiar with, but have weirdly never explored at all (beyond their soundtracks for claire denis films, which i love!). i have big blind spots, but the moment when i recognize them and discover a massive catalogue of great music can be a huge thrill. hoping this is one of those moments! really appreciate the suggestion.

the note was super thoughtful, and i really appreciated that my santa took such care to explore my (-somewhat- excessive) collection and offer a recommendation based on my taste that was meaningful to them. homing in on rachel's was a good instinct—some of my absolute favorite music!

overall, the bar has been set pretty high here—i have one great record off my santee's want list, but am going to have to bring it when it comes to the wild card suggestion...

thanks so much! this is a great community to be a part of, and i'm excited to see everyone else's gifts revealed.

Awesome, I’m so glad you’re happy with your gifts!

Well, this was a really nice treat!

I'm a huge fan of the current British jazz scene but I have to admit that my listening has really only been focused on musicians from London and Manchester. I vaguely recognise the name Rebecca Vasmant from Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM but have not explored her music yet, so this really is a perfect gift!! I haven't had a chance to listen yet but I'm really excited to!

Huge thank you whoever you are, you smashed it!
