i never listened to a full lou reed album (i have a controversial opinion that TVU and nico was just OK). so i hope this ends up pretty great

As an introduction you should give transformer a go. Produced by Bowie & Mick Ronson (they both play on it too) and chock full of hits that you’ll go, oh that’s by Lou Reed, when you hear them, most of it has just been absorbed into pop culture at this stage!

The Lou Reed guess is so on point that it is difficult to see how it isn't the AoTM, but Shoot Out the Lights by Richard and Linda Thompson appear to fit a few clues, too.

It's an 80s album. It's not jazz. It features 2 guitars, bass, and drums. It has a Jethro Tull Crest of a Knave connection, with Dave Pegg playing bass on both. Only Thompson is on the RS list, though, with Simon Nicol overlooked. (Haven't checked the discogs list, either.)

Another great, great album.

Destiny Street isn’t widely available. It’s a strong album btw. As good as their debut

Ian Hunter - Short Back N' Sides
my guess, Hunter is Jethro Tull, it is not metal, has some big-name guitarists on it, it didn't seem like @Woob_woob or @Skalap have it, I am not sure it fits the personnel clue though
