Needles & Grooves AoTM /// Vol. 3 - September 2019 /// Nicole Atkins - Goodnight, Rhonda Lee

Lorde - Melodrama? I don't know, does @Teeeee even like Lorde?
not american

Why yes, yes I do like Lorde. Saw her …. last year? And her performing Green Light and me handing EVERYTHING to my bro in law so I could go dance my face off in the "pit" was a favorite moment of that night. And when I say everything: my coat, my phone, my beer, MY GLASSES! I took my glasses off of my face to go dance. I take my dancing seriously!

I'm going to give another clue today. But first - a mountain time/west coaster gets to ask me a question, please and thank you.

And then that will be all the clues from me until Monday.*

*Maybe. This may or may not hold true. I change my mind a lot. I get impatient. I don't like surprises. Who put me in charge of picking an album and giving clues??? Mwa ha ha ha ha cough cough.

This this this is a nationalistic agenda. What about the internationals, will somebody think of the internationals 😜🤪😂

But when I say pop, I mean that particular sound. Britney, Whitney, Christina, Mariah, Backstreet Boys, Ariana, Robyn, Trainor, Demi, N Sync, O Town, One Direction. You get the point. That's what I think of when I say pop.
Does this AOTM have ‘that’ particular sound? Like Carly Rae Jepsen, Kesha, NSYNC, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, George Michael, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Charli XCX, Jesse McCartney, Leona Lewis???

People have been guessing Norah Jones, Jamila Woods and other people who don’t seem to fit into that ‘particular pop sound’ you mentioned here!

Most people will refer to Prince as a funk musician, whereas most people will refer to Madonna as a pop musician! That’s the difference.

That’s what I want to know! Is the AOTM that kind of pop we are talking about? Where it can’t really be mistaken for another genre!

It is not the internationals turn for a question, Nathan. ;)

I can answer this question on Monday if you all decide you want it to be THE question of the internationals.

What do we all think internationals? I reckon it’s a good question because we can still eliminate guesses that mention artists like Sinéad O Connor, Lykke Li, Norah Jones, Tori Amos, M.I.A, etc whereas we know artists/groups like Pussycat Dolls, Backstreet Boys, Robyn, Fifth Harmony, Cyndi Lauper, Demi Lovato, Lionel Richie, Lorde, Britney Spears, The Chainsmokers etc will be good!

I mean I was just going to go with

“What is the album?”

🤪🤪🤪
That could get really metaphysical. "What IS the album?" A product made of the remains of the dead from millions of years ago? The etchings, made by sophisticated but rapidly deteriorating industrial equipment, that hold information that can only be revealed with the application of a diamond-tipped needle? The beauty of a particular singer's voice? The development of harmony in western music? The funding, strategy, and marketing by a vast corporate conglomerate? The emotional responses that particular sounds create in the minds of the listeners, whether through evolutionary or cultural development? All of these things? None of them? It all depends on what your definition of "is" is....
