You have no idea how close I came to choosing this album. It really is one of my favorite pop albums of this decade. I thought long and hard about it. But opted for a non-top 40 artist. I wanted someone that didn't have as much exposure as Kesha. But I LOVE Kesha. And I love that album.

Nice - I'm glad you chose this one, though. I like it a lot and doubt I would have heard it otherwise! I think my brother will like this a lot too, so I plan to buy him a copy for his b-day in Sept - oddly enough, along with a ticket to see Angel Olsen with me.

I also thought it would be hard to overcome people's impressions of Kesha. They would see that I chose a Kesha album, think that they already knew what they wanted of her music and just not give Rainbow a chance. Which would have been a shame (because my personal write up of the album includes the phrase "this song sounds like a Jon Spencer Blues Explosion song").

But yay to all of these artists! Kesha and Nicole Atkins and Angel Olsen!!!! Great gifts for your bro!

I usually prefer to order from the artist directly, but Amazon Prime putting it on my porch tomorrow is tempting!

I LOVE THIS! I don't know Nicole personally at all. But the selfie matches exactly my impression of her. She seems down to earth and silly and able to laugh at herself. So much love for this!!!!!!!! ❤ ❤

I checked out Angel earlier in the week and really dug her. I ignored NA in hopes it was Angel. Now I'm listening to Nicole, since she's the pick I'm liking both albums.

TBH, all the Angel guesses were killing me! I appreciate her talent, but I just don't click with her music. I just went with it once it became clear you all thought it was her or Nicole. It was really hard to come up with clues to fit both Nicole and an artist I know NOTHING about. And some of the clues, I had no idea you all would find an Angel connection. Some of the last clues were honestly meant to be "this is Nicole without me just coming out and saying it is Nicole" clues - but then you all dug and found Angel connections. Lol.

I am all for this thread prompting people to dig into other artists. So that was a really awesome but accidental aspect to this thread. I am going to dig into Angel more, too!

Sorry to derail a bit, but I'm surprised about Angel, especially you are a Sleater fan. I actually find a little more entry into Angel because of the Bill aspect. Anyway both Angel and Nicole are some women with some great emotive voices.
