Needles & Grooves AoTM /// Vol. 5 - November 2019 /// Ruen Brothers "All My Shades of Blue" (2018)

I have to cut a large check to Uncle Sam next week and will probably have to go on a vinyl diet afterwards (and eat nothing but beans and ramen).

So of course I just dropped a C-Note today on (1) the front runner, (2) The Beatles Abbey Road (3) Isaac Hayes Hot Buttered Soul (4) the Sundazed Mono Otis Blue (5) Nina Simone Wild is the Wind.

The things I do for free shipping.

I looked at Dusty Springfield and Sam Cooke, but they were only available as 45s at over 50 bucks apiece and I was going for quantity.

There’s a front runner? I thought we were clueless in here?

Abbey Road Studios just released a 1/2 remaster of Dusty in Memphis. It’s a brilliant press, is on 33 and should be cheaper than the 45 2 disc one.

How does the Abbey Road sound compared to the Rhino issue from a few years back? Has anyone commented? I have that and it sounds pretty nice.

Don’t know sorry! It’s miles ahead of the 4 men with beards copy. What I will say is that all the abbey road 1/2 speed remaster ones I have sound stellar and are better than the same albums other OG presses for new or recent remasters for old. They’re sort of the next notch down from the audiophile pressings from mofi and the like.
