I haven’t heard Colorado yet but I was a huge fan of Psychedelic Pill (tbh I consider it the only essential Neil album of the 21st century). Will definitely check it out based on that recommendation!

It's really great. There isn't a track on it that I skip yet, which is different from PP in that regard.
 
According to my facebook memories, it's been a little over 5 years since the first Bridge School show I attended. Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Florence & The Machine, Band of Horses, Tom Jones, Norah Jones, Pegi Young, and Brian Wilson. Based on my recollection, along with Neil's set that year, he played Down by The River w/ Norah Jones, Throw Your Hatred Down with Pearl Jam, and Florence joined him for Alabama.

I went to the two following ones, before they ended the shows. These really were amazing weekends, a little disappointed I didn't start attending earlier. Not just the music, but seeing the dedication that the artists & educators had to the Bridge School students, and hearing their stories was inspiring. Anyone else attend these shows over the years?

I've been to 3 or 4 I believe. The first one I went to, in 1994, was also my first ever concert. Pearl Jam and Tom Petty played so it was definitely a great first concert experience. Ministry played a Grateful Dead cover during their set that made an impression on me. That song was eventually released on the Bridge School compilation album. I was also fortunate enough to find a release of Neil Young's set from that weekend. So nice to be able to relive some of that concert.

That was the year he played most of the Sleeps with Angels album if I remember correctly. I love listening to it in retrospect after really getting into the album, but I can imagine it was probably pretty confusing having him play so many unknown songs at the time.

Yep, that's exactly what he played. It was less weird in that the album, or at least a few songs from it, were done in response to the death of Kurt Cobain about 6 months earlier, so there was more of a context for it with that.
 
Hey @Yer Ol' Uncle D since you’re around, what are your thoughts on Colorado? It definitely sent me down the old Neil rabbit hole, my wife told me we couldn’t listen to Neil on the drive back from Boone this past weekend.

As a side note, looks like Morgan and I will be headed to Asheville to see Sturgill.

I love Colorado. It was really good on first listen and keeps getting exponentially better each time I play it.

It's 2/3 loud, angry Neil and 1/3 quiet, angry Neil.

It's very much a throwback record to me. And that's not meant in a bad way. The first time I listened to it my mind went straight to an American Stars 'N Bars comparison. The more I listen, the more I hear it. And I consider ASNB one of the most underrated, underappreciated NY&CH records out there.

If you didn't run into that one in the rabbit hole track it down and see what you think.

I may be totally wrong. And that wouldn't be the first time. Today.

It’s been a minute since i listened to ASNB, I’ll give it a listen. Yeah I think this is the Neil record that most rewards repeat listens since Le Noise.

I agree with the 2/3, 1/3 bit and was one of the reasons I found it odd as a Crazy Horse album... it’s not their normal MO.

I grabbed a copy of Comes a Time on vinyl the other day, so with exception of Archives Vol 1 and Storytone, I own the entire official discography in mixed media now! Vinyl is the next hurdle to cross!

Right on.

I love Comes A Time. 'Goin' Back' is a song that can really show off your system with the mix of electricity, acoustics and orchestration.

As for all the records - you can do it. I've got every release that's available on vinyl - sans a couple greatest hits collections - and it was an exhaustive task (emotionally and monetarily) putting that together. And looking back, it was all worth it.
 
Journey Through The Past is the movie at NYA today. I may actually patch my computer through the tv and sound bar for this.
