Neil Young

I suprised myself and ended up not purchasing, the tickets seemed exceedingly expensive.

I'm kinda in the same spot. The venue a little farther away for me would be better for him solo, but not sure I want to pay. A little cheaper at the closer spot, but huge venue that I'm not sure I want to see a guy in a chair play.
I looked at the prices through my fingers. Tbh I expected a whole lot worse, like I-know-you-boomers-are-loaded prices.

I was poking around my local the other day and found this…

The Rockets - The Rockets (1968, Promo)

I was completely unfamiliar but It was filed under the used Neil Young section which piqued my interest. Turns out this was Danny Whitten’s band that preceded Crazy Horse. They were never a big deal but Neil was a fan and invited them to join him and since the bands future seemed dim; Whitten, Billy Talbot, and Ralph Molina would join Neil in Crazy Horse.

Strangely, the thing that sets this record apart from the Crazy Horse music that would follow was the accompaniment of electric violin on many tracks. It’s a fun record worth checking out if you enjoy Neil.

Looks like Sundazed reissued this back in 2009 and it looks to still be obtainable for a reasonable price as well. For those curious.

All Mike's stories on this vid are great and the whole thing is worth your time but there's a superb Neil Young story here that begins at 4:25...

Fucking awesome! Not only great stories, but a great storyteller, too. How would you like to be in a bar with this guy?

Posted a short review over on the Upcoming/Recent shows thread. Won't put it here in case folks want to avoid setlist spoilers.

Bob Lefsetz did a great review of one of the earlier shows on the tour as well. Expresses things way better than I ever could.

How would you like it if every time someone stopped by your house they told the same damn story. Enough is enough. Three times, not even four, you’d kick them out, say no mas. That’s what it’s like seeing Neil’s contemporaries.

Artistry… It’s not about commercialism. It’s about honing your chops so you can express yourself, and continue to express yourself. It’s about growing. It’s about exploring. And although the input of the world is important, you are not imprisoned by said world. You exist outside it, so you can comment upon it.

Artistry…it’s like pornography, you know it when you see it.

And we see it rarely today.

And people have no sense of history.

But if you were there, and remember…

Last night you were in the presence of a true artist, one of the very last, being himself, you couldn’t even call it an act, and it made you feel alive and hopeful and special, just like the music did way back when, which is why you held it in such high esteem.
