Neverending Covid-19 Coronavirus

Got the first dose of the vaccine this morning after work...no issues yet, but it's only been about 6 hours.

Now that we are a Covid unit, I didn't think it was really a question not to get it.

There is always that one nurse that won't get it...and she was at work last night letting everyone know why she wasn't gonna get it.

She's a dumbass...and not only for this reason.

She once asked another CNA how many packets of thickener it takes to make pudding "pudding thick".

It boggles my mind how she passed her NCLEX

Questions for the masses as some of you may (unfortunately) have more experience than me with this and /or be doctors:

So i got tested last night and am awaiting results…

Symtoms started with being super sneezy with a deep itch in my sinuses and mildly congested both Sunday night and Monday morning. Went away instantaneously so I chalked it up to allergies. No temp at the time.

But then yesterday I could feel my immune system was on the fritz. Very, very mild temperature last night (99.3 when my body temp is usually at 96). Got tested went to bed and slept 11 hours.

Today, I again feel mostly okay though a tad under the weather. No sore throat, taste still here (I havent had a sense of smell since sinus surgery in 2014 so hard to say there), no cough, no temp, no congestion… just some loose stools.

The reason Im a bit on edge (despite being 33) is because a) usually if i get sick my immune system rapidly collapses so these symptoms and the come and go of them are odd b) i have shit lungs and regularly get bronchitis c) chronic mono caused a near decade long bout with chronic fatigue that I am not eager to have rear its head again

So questions:
A) If the rapid test comes back negative but I continue to feel "off" would you suggest contuing to quarantine and getting the "real" test
B) What can i be doing self care wise

I’m currently taking Vitamin D + fluids and using my nebulizer (though the abuteral saline has 11/20 as listed expiration date) as a precaution.

You are in a tough spot man and a lot of what you are talking about really should be discussed with a medical professional since they really have the knowledge. I’m not sure if your healthcare situation, but I do know LA county does have access to free testing. I would get another test if you are still feeling symptoms and quarantine until those days.

When my family was exposed I asked what do we do until the results come in. He said just wear a mask and if you have to go out don’t spend more than 15 minutes next to people when you are indoors. We followed that rule and canceled a little neighborhood b-day meeting with some families on our block for my son. This was even after getting negative results.

Care wise, I would just say rest and pay attention to your symptoms. Take your time with everything, use it as a time to reach out to others or start something you’ve wanted to do.

On a similar note, my sister just told me she got scheduled to get vaccinated Monday. She is not a frontline medical worker. However, she does research (not involving people) for a cancer center, which received an allotment for their employees who are high priority. It was offered to 3 priority groups before her and they still had leftovers, so she got the chance.

Similar situation for my wife's aunt - her daughter (wife's cousin) works in an infectious disease clinic, and they received enough so that each employee could also have one family member receive the vaccine in addition to themselves, so the aunt is getting it next week.
