One of my favorite bands of all time,  Haken, dropped their 7th LP today, titled  Fauna. In short, it's fantastic. This album is progressive rock/metal at its absolute finest (two genres, which, IMO, have been pretty stagnant for a long time, with very few exceptions), and it contains plenty of  Haken's quirkiness that I love. I know none of you had this album on your radar lists (unless I missed it somewhere), so I'm guessing most of you are unfamiliar with the group. I guarantee this will be one of the most unique rock/metal experiences of your year, even if you don't typically listen to these genres. Do yourself a favor 🎧 Every track is a highlight for me, but penultimate track "Elephants Never Forget" is at the top. This will definitely be an AOTY list contender for me 🤘

I really enjoyed this! Doubtful it will be on my yearend list, but we'll see what happens as I revisit it, since I definitely will. Thanks for the heads up.

Quality tunes.

🔥
  • Full Of Hell, Primitive Man - Suffocating Hallucination [favorite metal release so far of 2023]
  • Kate NV - WOW
  • Spektral Quartet, Julia Holter, Alex Temple - Behind the Wallpaper [c'mon, did you think this would be anywhere else? Even if it may be the weakest project she has been involved in, I'll take any and all of Julia that I can get. The lack of 5+ min songs hurts a bit, but the compositions are still unique and engaging as routinely expected]
👍
  • BrokenTeeth - How to Sink Slowly [Parannoul fans shouldn't let this slip by]
  • Che Noir - Noir or Never [way too short. Still yet to reach the level of ...As God Intended from pandemic season]
  • Haken - Fauna [thanks, @musicjunkiegreg]
  • Kali Uchis - Red Moon in Venus [gave this several listens and found myself unable to move into the higher tier, despite a godtier stretch from "Como Te Quiero Yo" to "Not Too Late (Interlude)." I didn't enjoy the songs with features, in particular the cut with Summer Walker as it reminds me of SZA's album from last year (not a compliment). Still an enjoyable listen, but can't shake the impression that Isolation >>> this.]
  • Xiu Xiu - Ignore Grief [the way this group can twist sound is disturbing. Should be an exciting concert in May!]
🤷‍♂️
  • Enslaved - Heimdal
  • If I Promise - On Departure
  • Nyokabi Kariuki - FEELING BODY
  • Mioclono - Cluster I
👎
  • Tink - Thanks 4 Nothing [dollar bin R&B]
🤮

None.

Wiki says Fugazi and basically the rest of Dischord. See, I just thought that was Hardcore but east coast flavored.

The description makes no damn sense:
"Post-hardcore is a punk rock music genre that maintains the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk but emphasizes a greater degree of creative expression."

Hardcore was somehow restricting? Did someone tell Henry Rollins with all his beat poetry?
