Album of the week for me is DARKSIDE's Spiral, the sophomore album from electronic guru Nicolás Jaar and multi-instrumentalist Dave Harrington. This LP delivers a more straightforward rock-centric sound than it's predecessor, the groundbreaking debut Psychic 🔮, which was a richer, more complexe experimental and ambient slow burn 🔥 but that said, the collaborative duo wasn't trying to recreate the same sonic pallet this time around, nor did they want to rehash the same narrative, instead they wanted to give us something entirely different without veering off from the aesthetic of their first, and they achieved it with flying colors. This album which leans heavily towards prog-rock and neo-psychedelia is grounded in real-time while rooted in mid-century, offering its listeners everything from middle-eastern instrumentation, to Gregorian chants and even nature sounds such as birds chirping and insects buzzing, and they tie it all so well together without ever sounding pretentious or out of place. This album is a dark and beautiful musical 🎼 journey through a collage of warm and soothing soundscapes. I highly recommend it. 👌

I love big, varied release days like this!

I got through about 1/3 of my list before bed last night and have added at least that many albums, or more, thanks to the various threads around here this morning.

The new King Woman is a helluva thing. I've not actually listened to any of the older stuff, but was pretty floored by this one.

I also quite love the "new" Prince, but that's coming as a longtime mega fam, so I don't know how much that translates into the broader experience.
