New ultrasonic vinyl cleaner in the works: Humminguru

I started to add a comment on Discogs, but I was very forgetful.

As this was my first run through my collection I can identify records that have been cleaned by my use of a nice clean, non-paper inner sleeve :)
I had a method for identifying cleaned discs at the beginning, but now just about everything is cleaned and for the few that may not be, I just pop it into the Humminguru. I don’t worry now if it has been cleaned previously, it’s no big deal if it gets cleaned more than once.

Considering shipping I have noticed it is cheaper on Amazon. Any reason to buy it direct vs Amazon? I figured they just sent a bulk shipment overseas to save on shipping costs but was curious if I missed something.

It looks to be about $100 cheaper including shipping to order direct when I compare the two.

Amazon would offer much faster fulfillment and, potentially, return/exchange functions. That said, I feel that Happywell has done an excellent job standing behind their product and assisting owners with repairs over the past few years, so I wouldn't hesitate to order direct from them and just deal with the longer shipping time.

It may be faster, but even though I selected the slower boat shipping option, I still got mine in less than a week and they sent it from a US depot.

I use the rice paper type sleeves from Hudson. I just use a sharpie to put a U in the corner.

That's clever. I have a notebook where I enter each title under the date of the relevant cleaning event. I also cut (approx.) business-card sized rectangles from acid-free light cardstock and note that the record has been "USC'd" with the date. I slide this into the protective sleeve in front of the jacket so I can see at a glance whether and when I've cleaned the record. Somehow, the routine of this process is satisfying to me (much more so than having to transfer/filter the water from the tank back into the cleaning reservoir!).

I've ended up with a new problem. For some time, I thought the machine was leaking. Well, it was leaking. I'd pour the water back into the Humminguru and it would start dripping into the container. No matter what I did, it would always drip a bit. (Fortunately I have the machine on our floor with underfloor heating, but it was a real pain).

I put up with it for a couple of months, cursing the machine repeatedly. Today, I decided to have a proper look - opened the machine up, cleaned the one water pipe I could get easy access to - still the same problem. I realised though that there was always a bit of water left in the machine and now it had become more. So I tried manually stopping the machine as it started to blow dry, and starting the dry cycle again (so it drains the machine a second time). And that has worked.

So for some reason it isn't draining quickly enough. (It's leaving a good centimetre plus of water now, and takes about 10-15 seconds of draining the second time round to hear that sucking sound that means there's no water left). I've reached out to Humminguru but posting here in case anybody has any thoughts / experience on this. I reckon I've cleaned somewhere between 3000-4000 pieces of vinyl so probably no wonder it's starting to fall apart. Still got about a fifth of my collection to go though...

Maybe this is too simple a question, but is the filter at the bottom of the tank clogged up?

Yes, checked that and it's fine. I can take it out and the water that is in the machine stays there. I think what was leaking was water that must have been in the pipe between the machine and the container. It took me a long while to figure out. What was v annoying now just adds time to cleaning, but there must be a bigger problem / blockage I can't see.

Do any of you note what records you've ran through the ultrasonic?

I was thinking about making a note in Discogs on ones I clean - that way I don't need to do it again when I next get it out to play.

Yep. I made a custom field in discogs for RCM and put the date I clean something.

I'm a total simpleton - I put a tiny sticker on the rear bottom right corner...

I use a double system as I'm too lazy for stickers/Discogs fields / possibly even more of a simpleton

1. Clean my collection in order ie A-Z.
2. Push uncleaned records back in the shelf / bring forward cleaned ones so it's easy to see what I've done/still have to do.
New records may occasionally get cleaned twice, but I can live with that.

I hope you can get a reply from Happywell.
