Just realized that Montreal were the last Canadian team to win the cup when they were last in the finals in 1993... that's a crazy stat. I think everyone has been in the finals since then (minus Toronto lol), so it's not for lack of trying
and Winnipeg used to be the Atlanta Thrashers right? so they get a pass for still being relatively new. That's right. Vancouver in 1994 and 2011, Calgary in 2004, Edmonton in 2006 and Ottawa in 2007. Winnipeg hasn't been either, but they made at least one semi. This is the first presence by a canadian team since 2007.
One asterisk: the Colorado Avalanche won the cup in 1996 during their first year in Colorado... that team was basically the Quebec Nordiques.
I have been very casual with watching the NHL since they moved all the Canadian teams in one division and kept being surprised at why in the world are Montreal playing Vegas.Another weird thing is that the Habs won the Campbell trophy for the first time in their history. It's the trophy they should never have had a chance to win because it's the western conference trophy.

I just looked up after I made that comment and the North Division has 7, all the others have 8. It would be too easy to throw Seattle right into that North Division. I wonder if they're going to do that.Since all the divisions were independent and reworked differently than usual this year, the NHL decided to re-rank the bracket based on season points for the semis. Should be back to normal next year (although, maybe there is something interesting to this way of doing things because it opens the possibility of different matchups in the semis and finals).

Seattle in the West and I think the Coyotes moving.I'm pretty sure they're going back to the 2019-20 divisions with Seattle going west.
Moving to Québec? Oh wait you mean something else. Never mind. Carry on...Seattle in the West and I think the Coyotes moving.
Now you know Uncle Gary won’t let that happen on his watch.Moving to Québec? Oh wait you mean something else. Never mind. Carry on...
