NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

The Montreal Canadiens are getting their NHL draft after all, as the team will host the 2022 event, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Montreal was originally tabbed as the host city for 2020, but the NHL later made proceedings remote amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The league will keep the remote format for this year's draft.

After canceling the plans for the Canadiens to host last year, the NHL assured the club of a future draft.

It will be the city's first time holding it since 2009 and the 10th NHL draft held in Montreal since the league started conducting the event in 1980. Montreal hosted the first five entry drafts from 1980-84 after being the sole home of the NHL's amateur draft from 1963-79.

Tough game for the Habs. The Circumventers did a great job stopping the Habs from generating much. Let’s hope they bounce back for Game 2 or this could be a short series.

Series are always about adjustments... Took 4 games to adjust to Toronto while Toronto never seemed to change a thing. Winnipeg never adjusted. Took 1 game to adjust to Vegas. Can Montreal adjust to Tampa? Tampa is very strong, but I see the same kind of flashes I saw in those early Vegas and Toronto games, so everything is still possible.

The Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed forward Wayne Simmonds to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value of $900,000, the team announced Tuesday.

Simmonds, 32, appeared in 38 games in his first season with the Leafs, recording seven goals and two assists. He ranked second on the team with 45 penalty minutes and 8.43 hits per 60 minutes.

Toronto brought in the veteran prior to the season on a one-year, $1.5-million contract. He's collected 258 goals and 250 assists in 947 career games during his time with the Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators, New Jersey Devils, and Philadelphia Flyers.
