NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

How? He had no way of knowing who Montreal was going to pick until after they were on the clock. This is all on MTL.

This is squarely on the Canadiens organization and they know. By the same token, Bettman is in charge of the league. He doesn't get to feign ignorance. He could have been more proactive before the draft but my guess is this was not even discussed with the GMs. The league as a whole should be more proactive in regards to these issues.

Fact of the matter is every team needs an energy player, a pest etc. especially during the postseason. PIT doesn't have one at the moment. Maybe they should reach out to Cizikas? 🤔

I’m not sure how much energy that guy brings but I am sure that he cost the Pens a 1st round pick(I think) & Sundqvist.
I guess he was ok In St. Louis but his tough guy antics are tiring and he hurts his own team more than he helps. He would routinely get benched in the 3rd when he was a VGK. I’m looking forward to him cross checking a Pen into injury.

David Krejci's time with the Boston Bruins has come to an end.

The 35-year-old announced on Friday that he's heading overseas to play in his home country of the Czech Republic. He's spent the last 14 seasons with the Bruins.

"Since the end of the season, as I have thought about my future, it has become clear that I need to make a difficult decision for my family and I," Krejci said. "At this point in my career and life, I need to return to the Czech Republic and play in front of my family who sacrificed so much to help me achieve my NHL dreams. I want to play in front of my parents, brother, and friends. I want my children to live where I grew up, and spend time with so many Czech family members who love them and create lifelong memories."

Krejci has spent his entire career with the Bruins since being drafted by the club in the second round in the 2004 NHL Draft. He's scored 215 goals and added 515 assists in 962 career games. He helped guide the club to a Stanley Cup victory in 2011 when he had 23 points in 25 playoff games.

He's been a model of consistency for the Bruins over his career, producing year in and year out. Last season, he managed eight goals and 36 assists in 51 games. He hit the 50-point mark in eight different campaigns and notched 60-plus six times.

"So for now, I want to thank all the Bruins fans for the support they have shown my family and I over the last 14 years," he said. "I will forever be thankful.

"This is not goodbye, I will not be a stranger. I will be a Bruin forever. I will see you at the TD Garden soon, and I will always bleed black and gold."

The St. Louis Blues have re-signed restricted free-agent forward Ivan Barbashev to a two-year contract with an annual cap hit of $2.25 million.

Barbashev, 25, recorded five goals and seven assists in 38 games this past season in a bottom-six role. The Blues protected him in the expansion draft.

St. Louis selected Barbashev 33rd overall at the 2014 NHL Draft.

The Blues now project to have approximately $6 million in remaining cap space. They still need to sign fellow RFAs Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, and Zach Sanford.

The club could also create additional cap space by accommodating Vladimir Tarasenko's trade request.

The Colorado Avalanche re-signed Tyson Jost to a two-year contract, the team announced Friday.

The deal carries an average annual value of $2 million, reports Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.

Jost, 23, appeared in 54 games with the Avalanche last season. He recorded seven goals and 10 assists.

"Tyson took a big step last year and was a key contributor to our team. He has worked hard to improve his game and earn a spot in our lineup," general manager Joe Sakic said. "Tyson is a guy with a lot of character who competes at a high level day in and day out. We are excited to have him under contract for another two seasons."

Colorado drafted Jost with the 10th pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. He's appeared in 262 career games, totaling 39 goals and 50 assists.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed winger Ondrej Kase to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million.

The 25-year-old will be a restricted free agent after the 2021-22 campaign.

Concussions limited Kase to just three games last season before the Boston Bruins non-tendered him ahead of free agency.

In his last full campaign in 2019-20, Kase tallied 24 points in 55 games. However, he displayed plenty of promise in the two seasons prior with the Anaheim Ducks, averaging 27 goals and 23 assists per 82 contests.

Kase posted strong underlying numbers across his last three healthy seasons, particularly at even strength.

The Czech Republic native, who's primarily played right wing, is looking to revive his career in Toronto. Given the Maple Leafs' lack of forward depth, Kase could conceivably play on one of the team's top two lines with either Auston Matthews or John Tavares.

However, the biggest key surrounding Kase will be his health. He played in two games in January, missed nearly four months, returned for less than seven minutes in May, and hasn't played since.

The Edmonton Oilers signed restricted free agent forward Warren Foegele to a three-year contract with an average annual value of $2.75 million, the team announced Saturday.

The Oilers acquired Foegele from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Ethan Bear earlier this week.

The 25-year-old scored 10 goals and added 10 assists over 53 games with the Hurricanes last season. He's appeared in 200 career contests while managing 35 goals and 33 assists.

The Detroit Red Wings re-signed forward Tyler Bertuzzi to a two-year contract, the team announced Saturday.

The deal is expected to carry an average annual value of $4.75 million, according to The Athletic's Max Bultman.

Bertuzzi has been one of Detroit's most productive forwards over the last few seasons. He was limited to nine games this past year due to injury, but the 26-year-old posted 48 points during the 2019-20 campaign and 47 the previous season.

The Red Wings selected Bertuzzi with the 58th pick in 2013. He's appeared in 208 career games while scoring 54 goals and adding 72 assists.

Wow! But at the same time it wouldn't surprise me. That guy has a gambling problem which would explain why he recently filed for bankruptcy.
Yeah, I think the bankruptcy was because of gambling but a gambling addiction and a) leaving your pregnant wife at home alone apparently without any money and b) gambling on your own games is just unbelievable shithead behaviour.

The NHL will investigate San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane after his wife, Anna, made a series of allegations about his gambling on social media.

In three Instagram Stories posted Saturday, Anna accused Evander of throwing games to support his gambling addiction.

"How does the NHL let a compulsive gambling addict still play when he's obviously throwing games with bookies to win money?" she wrote. "Maybe someone needs to address this."

Anna also called NHL commissioner Gary Bettman into question, asking him how the league can "let a player gamble on his own games."

The NHL addressed the situation in a statement, saying it will be taking the allegations "very seriously."

"The integrity of our game is paramount," the league wrote. "We intend to conduct a full investigation and will have no further comment at this time."

The Sharks announced they have been in contact with the league about the allegations, according to The Athletic's Kevin Kurz.

"We support a full and transparent investigation into the situation to maintain the integrity of the game and consistency with our team values," the team said.

Evander filed for bankruptcy in January. He reportedly had $26.8 million of debt at the time of his filing and held assets of only $10.2 million.

I am 99.9% sure that she is telling the truth. I also am 99.9% sure this is going to open up a whole can of worms within the league because I truly believe she is not the only wife in the NHL aware of such behavior

On a side-note, the sheer number of gambling ads during the games this year was staggering. All of the private companies were skirting the law by promoting their "non-gambling" .net sites but there were still quite a bit of legal casino ads and legal betting loto segments. It's totally being embraced.
