The Seattle Kraken signed winger Ryan Donato to a one-year contract worth the league minimum of $750,000, the team announced Monday.

Donato tallied six goals and 14 assists in 50 games with the San Jose Sharks last season. Seattle will be the 25-year-old's fourth team, but he has shown varying degrees of promise at different times in his career.

When he was first called up to the Boston Bruins in 2017-18, he recorded nine points in 12 games. The following season, he registered 16 points in 22 contests after the Minnesota Wild acquired him via trade.

"Ryan's hockey sense and ability to contribute on the scoresheet are two ingredients we are excited to add to our forward group," Kraken general manager Ron Francis said. "We like his offensive potential and believe he can add scoring depth."

Donato has posted average offensive metrics over the past three seasons, but he's been a defensive liability.

He was a Hobey Baker finalist in his last season at Harvard in 2018.

Tried watching some NFL. Just not able to get into it any more, which is sad. So I need hockey season to hurry the eff up double-speed now.
I stopped watching 3 years ago because I was boycotting for 1 season because I did not care for Mike Tomlin and thought the Steelers would fire him. Well, they really showed me! After that first year I found myself not missing the NFL at all. It was a relief to have my Sundays back.

Are there still a lot of unvaccinated players? I know Montreal mentioned they were all fully vaccinated prior to the VGK series in June, which I believe was part of the agreement for crossing the border without quarantine.

Which is also still currently in place. The Canadian border is open, but the rules are not the same for unvaccinated and fully vaccinated. Tests are required and the vaccinated are pretty free otherwise. But I'm pretty sure the 14 day quarantine still exists for those that are not vaccinated, which would be an issue for hockey players. It would certainly cause a political uproar should an unvaccinated player be allowed through without quarantine if an outbreak ensues.

I’m pretty sure the NHL wants everyone vaccinated unless they have medical or religious exemption.
I’m glad you laughed at the post though. The fact that Tony D got vaccinated was the joke. 😁

It has to be the only reason it would have taken them so long, right? Not to say other teams don't have "sleeper" resistance, but Tony D is no such thing.

EDIT: also, I'm going to laugh at the Hurricanes as much as I can from now on. it is the way.

Former Boston Bruins center Fred Stanfield, the mild-mannered sidekick to Bobby Orr on the high-scoring teams of the early 1970s, has died. He was 77.

Stanfield died Monday and the Bruins announced his death Tuesday. A cause of death was not given.

A native of Toronto, Stanfield played six seasons in Boston, helping the Bruins win the Stanley Cup in 1970 and 1972 as the No. 2 center behind Phil Esposito. He was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in 1967 as part of one of the most famous trades in NHL history, swapped along with Esposito and Ken Hodge for Gilles Marotte, Pit Martin and Jack Norris.

Stanfield finished his career with 211 goals and 405 assists for 616 points in 914 games for the Blackhawks, Bruins, Minnesota North Stars and Buffalo Sabres from 1964-1978. He added 21 goals and 35 assists in the playoffs.

Stanfield centered Boston's second line between Johnny Bucyk and Johnny McKenzie and manned one of the points alongside Orr on the team's proficient power play.

Stanfield scored 20 or more goals in all six of his seasons with the Bruins, his best showing coming in 1971-72 when he notched 79 points (23 goals, 56 assists) in 78 games. He added seven goals and nine assists during the playoffs to help lead the Bruins to the Cup.

In six seasons playing together, Stanfield, Hodge and Esposito combined for 650 goals and 925 assists for 1,575 points. Stanfield’s totals were 135 goals and 274 assists for 409 points.

A gentlemanly player, Stanfield never accumulated more than 22 penalty minutes in a season and had only 8 penalty minutes in 106 playoff games. He was traded to Minnesota for goalie Gilles Gilbert in May 1973.
