Seven San Jose Sharks players, along with head coach Bob Boughner, have been placed in COVID-19 protocol prior to their clash against the Winnipeg Jets, the team announced Saturday.

Defensemen Erik Karlsson, Jake Middleton, Radim Simek, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic as well as forwards Andrew Cogliano, Jonathan Dahlen, and Matt Nieto are all sidelined.

Captain Logan Couture is "under the weather" and won't be playing Saturday, but he isn't in COVID-19 protocol, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

With Boughner unavailable behind the bench, assistant coach John MacLean will take over for the time being.

The Sharks recalled a group of players from their AHL affiliate, including defensemen Nicolas Meloche, Ryan Merkley, and Jaycob Megna in addition to forwards Nick Merkley and John Leonard.

The start of the game was delayed 15 minutes to allow for the analysis of test results.

All players and staff within the Sharks organization have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Jarry was the best player for the Pens tonight. Especially in the 2nd.
he was good in the second but he didn't see the puck well and couldn't glove a puck all night. reminds me of when fleury was struggling, allowing rebound after rebound... and the way he took his sweet ass time getting off the ice before the open goal.

the team isnt helping him out but he's a hard pass for me

I’m not sold on Jarry either. I don’t think Burxtall is either. Maybe there will be a deadline deal.

The Montreal Canadiens sent top prospect Cole Caufield to the AHL's Laval Rocket, the NHL club announced Monday.

Caufield entered the season as the consensus Calder Trophy favorite, but he's produced only one point - an assist - over the first 10 games of the campaign.

The 20-year-old impressed upon arriving in the NHL last season, notching four goals and an assist across 10 regular-season contests before adding four markers and eight helpers in 20 playoff games.

Caufield won the Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA's top Division I men's hockey player while playing for the University of Wisconsin in April. The Canadiens called him up for his NHL debut later that month.

Montreal signed the American-born forward to an entry-level contract in March after drafting him 15th overall in 2019.

The Canadiens recalled forward Michael Pezzetta on Monday in a corresponding move.

Montreal Canadiens forward Cedric Paquette received a two-game suspension for boarding Anaheim Ducks center Trevor Zegras on Sunday, the league announced Monday.

Paquette was handed a five-minute major and game misconduct on the play. This marks the second time the league has suspended him in his nine-year career. The 28-year-old was given a one-game suspension for a boarding hit on Torey Krug in 2017.

Zegras initially left the game but later returned. The 2019 ninth overall pick has recorded a pair of goals and three assists over 10 games this season.
