NHL Thread Because There Isn't An NHL Thread

I just want the Pens to trade for a reliable backup for Jarry. There’s not a whole lot out there that’s going to drastically improve the team for this season.
Like who Jake Allen? There's not many backup goalie options right now, unless you would consider a 1b scenario such as Flower 🤔

Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad needed help leaving the ice after an awkward collision Friday against the Anaheim Ducks. He was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the contest with a lower-body injury.

Interim head coach Andrew Brunette offered an encouraging postgame update.

"We're very hopeful," he said, according to WPLG's David Dwork. "It's way better than we thought it would be."

He added: "Nothing structural. I'll know more tomorrow. It'll be a clearer picture tomorrow, exactly what it is. But yeah, it was positive news tonight, and we'll go from there."

🤕

Ekblad went to hit Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler, but teammate Aleksander Barkov accidentally took out his legs. He couldn't put any weight on his right side as he crawled toward the bench before the training staff helped him off the ice.

Ekblad broke his left leg last March and missed the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign as a result.

The 26-year-old is enjoying a career year that's put him into the Norris Trophy conversation. He entered Friday with 57 points in 60 games - fifth among NHL defensemen - while averaging a team-high 25:19 per contest.

The Panthers traded for Ben Chiarot on Wednesday to bolster their defense corps, but they may have to add another blue-liner if Ekblad has to miss time.

TRADE ALERT 🚨

The Anaheim Ducks are trading defenseman Hampus Lindholm to the Boston Bruins, reports Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.

Anaheim is receiving a 2022 first-round pick, a 2023 second-round selection, a 2024 second-rounder along with defensemen Urho Vaakanainen and John Moore, according to TSN's Chris Johnston. The Ducks retained 50% of Lindholm's salary.

Lindholm, 28, is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. He carries a cap hit of $5.2 million.

With the addition of the left-handed blue-liner, the Bruins' line combinations could look something like this:

LDRD
Hampus LindholmCharlie McAvoy
Matt GrzelcykBrandon Carlo
Mike ReillyConnor Clifton
Lindholm is a solid two-way player who can help out on both ends of the ice. He has five goals and 17 assists in 61 games this season while averaging 22:32 minutes of ice time per contest.

Boston drafted Vaakanainen with the 18th pick in 2017. He's appeared in 31 contests over the last four seasons, recording four assists. Moore has been with the Bruins since 2018 but has suited up in just seven games this year, managing one assist.

TRADE ALERT 🚨

The
Philadelphia Flyers have traded longtime captain Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers, according to ESPN's Emily Kaplan.

Prospect
Connor Bunnaman is also joining Giroux in Florida, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. Forward Owen Tippett is heading to the Flyers as part of the package.

The Panthers' package was competitive, but "not as aggressive as Boston or Colorado," per Kaplan.

Giroux was one of the top names available on the market heading into Monday's trade deadline. The 34-year-old center can be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and carries a cap hit of $8.275 million.

He logged 18 goals and 24 assists in 57 contests on a struggling Philadelphia squad this season. Giroux skated in his 1,000th game as a Flyer on Thursday night but was
held out of Friday's contest versus the Ottawa Senators as trade rumors continued to heat up.
