The Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Troy Stecher to a two-year contract, the team announced Saturday.

Stecher's deal is worth $3.4 million, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

The 26-year-old did not receive a qualifying offer from the Vancouver Canucks after his two-year, $4.65-million pact with the club expired at the end of this season.

The 5-foot-10 blue-liner recorded five goals and 17 points while ranking fourth on the Canucks with 70 blocked shots through 69 games in 2019-20.

The Red Wings added netminder Thomas Greiss with a two-year, $7.2-million deal earlier Friday.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are nearing a one-year contract with veteran forward Mikko Koivu, according to theScore's John Matisz.

The deal is worth roughly $1.5 million, Matisz adds.

Koivu, 37, has spent his entire 15-year NHL career with the Minnesota Wild. Wild GM Bill Guerin said in September that the team wouldn't sign the longtime captain.

The 6-foot-3 pivot contributed four goals and 21 points in 55 games last season before the pause.

Koivu helps round out the Blue Jackets' depth at center behind Pierre-Luc Dubois and recent acquisition Max Domi. He logged 15:34 of average ice time per game last season and won 53.1% of his faceoffs.
Great pickup for CBJ...still have plenty of cap to sign PLD and more

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded Andreas Johnsson to the New Jersey Devils for Joey Anderson, the team announced.

The Maple Leafs needed to clear cap space after signing TJ Brodie on Friday, and Johnsson was the odd man out. He's inked for three more years with an annual cap hit of $3.4 million, according to CapFriendly.

Johnsson, 25, racked up 20 goals and 23 assists in 2018-19, finishing eighth in Calder Trophy voting. He took a step back during an injury-riddled 2019-20 campaign, though, recording eight goals and 13 assists in 43 games.

Anderson, the Devils' third-round pick in 2016, has tallied 13 points in 52 career NHL games. The 22-year-old is currently a restricted free agent.

The Chicago Blackhawks have traded forward Brandon Saad and prospect Dennis Gilbert to the Colorado Avalanche for defensemen Nikita Zadorov and Anton Lindholm, the team announced Saturday.

The Blackhawks are also reportedly retaining $1 million on Saad's contract, a source told The Athletic's Scott Powers. He's entering the final year of his deal that contains a $6-million cap hit.

Saad, a five-time 20-plus-goal scorer, potted 21 goals and added 12 helpers in 58 games this past season. The 27-year-old is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with 81 career playoff games under his belt.

Zadorov fills a need on Chicago's blue line after the team traded Olli Maatta to the Los Angeles Kings earlier in the offseason. He's physically imposing at 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, and Zadorov racked up 175 hits last season. The 25-year-old is currently a restricted free agent.

@Twentytwo what's the skinny on this guy?
The Ottawa Senators have acquired winger Austin Watson from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2021 fourth-round pick, the team announced Saturday.

More to come.

He was actually my favorite player on the Preds. No one has a bigger heart than him, Gives it his all every game. Plays a chippy game and can occasionally contribute offensively. He’s a recovering alcoholic, but he seems to have got that cleaned up.

ICYMI:

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Zach Bogosian to a one-year contract worth $1 million, the team announced Saturday.

Bogosian split the 2019-20 campaign between the Buffalo Sabres and the Tampa Bay Lightning, tallying seven points in 27 games. He skated in 20 playoff contests during the Lightning's Stanley Cup title run, chipping in with four assists while averaging nearly 18 minutes per game.

The 30-year-old will add a much-needed imposing presence to Toronto's blue line. The right-handed defenseman stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 221 pounds, and he racked up 44 hits this past postseason.

Bogosian was drafted third overall in 2008 and has been widely considered a bust, but he's battled numerous injuries during his 12-year career.

However, while healthy and on a playoff team for the first time, Bogosian was a valuable contributor for the Lightning. He spent much of the playoffs paired with Victor Hedman and posting strong underlying numbers, including a 59% Corsi For percentage and a 52.5% expected goals percentage - although the former Norris Trophy winner certainly helped prop up Bogosian.

Toronto also added TJ Brodie to its back end on Friday.

The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Vladislav Namestnikov to a two-year contract, the team announced Sunday.

The contract carries an average annual value of $2 million, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.

The Red Wings have already signed Bobby Ryan, Troy Stecher, Jon Merrill, and Thomas Greiss since the opening of the free agency period on Friday. General manager Steve Yzerman previously drafted Namestnikov in the first round of the 2011 NHL Draft with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The 27-year-old appeared in 65 games last season with the New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, and Colorado Avalanche. He totaled 17 goals and 14 assists.

Namestnikov has played in 425 career games, amassing 83 goals and 106 assists.

The Dallas Stars re-signed forward Radek Faksa to a five-year contract carrying an average annual value of $3.25 million, the team announced Sunday.

The 26-year-old was a pending restricted free agent.

"Radek has developed into an extremely detailed player and offers our team a mix of size, speed, and physicality," Dallas general manager Jim Nill said in a statement. "He plays big minutes on both special teams units for us, while often times playing against the opposing team's best players at even strength. We're thrilled to have him in place for the next five seasons as he is a great teammate and a big part of the Dallas Stars culture."

Faksa appeared in 66 games with the Stars during the 2019-20 season, recording 11 goals and nine assists. He helped Dallas in all situations, averaging 15:53 of ice time per game, 2:17 with the penalty-kill unit, and 1:55 on the power play.

He's skated in 351 career games, totaling 60 goals and 68 assists.

The Montreal Canadiens have signed forward Tyler Toffoli to a four-year contract carrying an average annual value of $4.25 million, the team announced Monday.

Toffoli appeared in 68 games last campaign with the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks. After Vancouver acquired him at the trade deadline, the 28-year-old compiled six goals and four assists in 10 games. He recorded 24 goals and 20 assists on the season.

The Los Angeles Kings originally chose the winger in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft. He was a member of the Stanley Cup-winning team in 2013 and amassed 139 goals with 151 assists in 515 games during his eight-season stint there.
