November 2020 Challenge Thread: The End Is Near

Day 25: Turkey Bowl
Play something that'd be a great soundtrack to playing a game with friends (this could be any sport or a board game if sports aren't your thing).

Covid-ing has led to a lot of board games with the family recently. My oldest daughter is getting into D&D and associated tabletop games. We find that soundtracks are good background music for those. Played this one the other night while we played "Betrayal at the house on the Hill" since it involved a dragon.

Most of the music in my collection is, judging from decades of experience, repellant to most social visitors to our home. So for card games and similar social events I like to prepare a playlist in Tidal by throwing in a number of albums and playing them on shuffle. I choose albums that I like but that can easily be ignored and nobody is going to complain about. (@Goodlivingav do you really play The Fall when you have friends over for a dominoes tournament?)

But it has to be just one album for this challenge. I find this one is a safe bet. I love it! At the same time it doesn't demand attention or irritate the psyche if you don't give it any. And it keeps the party going to two whole hours.

@D Jilla The instructions are clear but music fans outside of North America might not understand what they have to do with bowls of turkey. I've lived in the USA since 95 and I still don't understand the Bowl thing. Is it a sporting event? A trophy? If so, what sport and which event/trophy is the Turkey Bowl?

Haha yeah fair enough - anything involving games is fine. Here's the wikipedia write-up on Turkey Bowls (basically backyard football games, seems possible they're more popular in the midwest).

Over the last few years (before Covid of course) I've had monthly poker games with friends. We take turns hosting, and on my turn I set up a stack to play during the several hours of poker. I usually kick it off with well known stuff like classic rock and the Beasties, etc. As the night turns to the wee hours I switch to jazz, and it always feels perfect. I miss hosting those games, hoping to get back to it in 2021...but I'm patient, if it has to wait until 2022 so be it.

Anyway, this one gets in the mix a lot. My soundtrack to late night poker.

What am I thankful for? I'm thankful for things like this forum that can bring people together. I'm thankful for all your posts, which have shown me a great eclectic selection of music. I'm thankful for the past, I'm thankful for the future, I'm thankful for the eternal - in Music, in Friendship. Sly & The Family Stone - Greatest Hits

I'm thankful for many of the things listed as track titles on this album: Life, Fun, Dancing to the Music, Hot Fun in the Summertime, M'Lady. Plus the album closer is titled Thank You. So many things to be thankful for every day. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

No bigger producer when I was growing up in the 80's. I didn't know he actually had a band and played any instrument until well after that.

Day 26: Thanksgiving

A continuation of yesterday I suppose. Enjoying lots of jazz while the family plays cards & the turkey cooks. Missing the extended family but it's nice to have a holiday with just the family, a first for us.
