Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left

I think the first time I heard of Nick Drake was when I was a kid working at this music museum that had just opened and they had all of these musicians play that first week. Damien Jurado played one night and closed his set with “Pink Moon.” Afterwards, I told him I had heard his song on the Volkswagen commercial and he was very kind to educate me.

11. Veteran's Day / Armistice Day / Remembrance Day

John Prine - Fair & Square

Prine served during Vietnam, but then became an antiwar activist, which is part of my draw to him for today. One of the things I'm most disappointed in my generation is that there was no robust anti-war movement against Iraq and Afghanistan. It was sad to see that without the "put down your books and pick up gun, cause we're gonna have a whole lotta fun" draft and the individual cost a lot of people just didn't care enough to raise hell against these wars. Here's to hell raising against war and cheers to the anti-war vets.

The Doors "Strange Days" (1967 Elektra; 2012 Analogue Productions 2x45 remaster)
Prior to forming The Doors, Ray Manzarek served in Thailand and Japan in the lead-up to Vietnam but was discharged. Some intellectual radicals don't make good soldiers it seems. Although the ideal would be that we shouldn't need soldiers and militaries, the reality is otherwise. Service is important and I wish to thank all veterans on here for their sacrifice.
