November Challenge Thread: All-Stars Edition!

Day 1 New Beginnings. Post an album that is associated with new beginnings. Or, look back in your post history to see the first album you posted about on N&G, and play that album.

While I have been on N&G since the beginning, I did not post to 'What's Spinning' until a couple of years ago. But within a couple of days of joining during the Great Exodus of '19 I mentioned playing this. Great mini-lp

Peter Bjorn And John - Falling Out

Looks like I had posted this in the challenge back in June 2019. We’re getting old, you guys.

Day 2: Peter Bjorn and John - Falling Out

They still hadn’t yet made “that whistling song” but this record showed a continued progression from their debut towards consistently well-written infectious pop. I think I actually revisit this one more than Writer’s Block...

Day 1: New Beginnings

Al Green "Call Me" (1973 Hi Records; 2019 club reissue)
My first post about a record on here was about an entire order from VMP. Most of the records were warped according to my post, lol. But I specifically mentioned Al Green, which wasn't warped, and which remains one of the better releases I received from them.
Coincidentally, that was the same album I played first here! I decided to go for the other prompt tho…

Kool & the Gang - Ladies Night

This was their first album with J.T. Taylor on lead vocals. The title track got them their first top 40 pop hit in 4 years (first pop top 10 in 5 years) & they’d have a consistent string of hits until Taylor left the group in 1988.

Day 1: When Needles & Grooves was first launched in May 2019, @RenegadeMonster got right into it with a spin challenge that started with the following prompt: "New Beginnings. Post an album that is associated with new beginnings".
  • New Beginnings. Post an album that is associated with new beginnings. Or, look back in your post history to see the first album you posted about on N&G, and play that album.
So it turns out I ran the June challenge in 2019. What an honor!
Here is the prompt, and album I chose.

Day 1 - Who Are You?
Welcome to the June challenge! Play a record from your go-to genre

Your week in music (last.fm collages...)

My first post here was in the Last.fm thread so I wanna go with my #1 album from that week. Also want to just give that thread a shout out! It’s the one I probably have posted on the most and I love seeing everyone’s collage each week

Day 1: New Beginnings

So last year, I started on my new beginning. We decided in July of 2023 not to wait and instead move in together because life is too short to not go for it. This was the record that we bought at the show we went to right before we officially moved in together.

Day 2: @ranbalam and @gafacaode both gave us Movie related themes in 2023.
  • Play a soundtrack or something featured in a movie.
Sonic Youth - Simon Werner A Disparu soundtrack. Never seen the movie but love the soundtrack that SY did

They also did the Made In The USA soundtrack in 1995. I enjoy both but own neither on vinyl unfortunately.

Lusine - A Certain Distance

The first time I posted a photo here of something spinning on my turntable, back in 2019, it was this album. I'm also still the only person here to have posted about this artist.
