NYClub

Hello!

We’ll be visiting NYC in early May for our anniversary (20 years, boy, they surely flew by).
Looking for some recommendations (record stores, restaurants, whatever you guys feel it’s worth checking out). This will be our third visit, but we haven’t been there since 2017.

Where will you be staying? Highly recommend greenpoint…

We haven’t settled on a definitive place yet. I have a hotel booked with free cancellation in Hell’s Kitchen, but we’re still looking.
I’ll check out Greenpoint.
Guess it really depends what you want to do and what kinda vibe you want. Not sure what Airbnb prices are in Greenpoint now but it’s a nice place to stay with tons of bars and restaurants and coffee shops. More of a neighborhood feel. Ferry is nearby to go to Manhattan or different areas of Brooklyn. But if most of what you wanna do is in Manhattan then maybe Hell’s Kitchen is a good somewhat central place

Yeah only thing about Greenpoint is it can be a bit of a deterrent towards getting out into Manhattan and if you have a bunch of stuff you want to do there you may feel a bit more bothered by the commute to and fro than you’d want for a NYC getaway. But if you want a cool locals Brooklyn style getaway then Greenpoint has incredible restaurants, bars, coffee shops, record stores and nice walking avenues

In Manhattan here’s what I got for you:

Walk the Highline and pair it with Chelsea Market

Pair a Trip to MoMA with a meal at Quality Bistro (Get the Butter Service) 6th Ave & 53rd MoMa/55thQB
If it’s only 1 Art Museum for the trip though - I prefer the Whitney.

Edge observation deck after dark- the lights of the city at night are kind of spectacular. If you spend $40 or more at the restaurant “Peak” you get free entrance to Edge.

Limited To One: Limited To One Record Store

Gillian Welch & David Rawlings May 7 & 8 @ Carnegie Hall
Bowery Ballroom if anyone you are interested in is playing.
Jazz at the Cafe Carlyle

Great Broadway: The Outsiders
Seeing Glen Gary Glenross this week (Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk & Bill Burr)
Othello with Denzel and Jake Gyllenhall opens by then

Afternoon Tea at the Mandarin Oriental Lounge in Columbus Circle

Decibel, but not before 8 pm, 2nd Ave & 9th.
2A if you’re out after midnight in Alphabet City, Ave A & 2nd Street.

Cote, if you can get a reservation, 5th Ave and 22nd Street across from the flatiron building
Thai Diner on Mott Street

At Grand Central:
Grand Central Oyster Bar for a casual meal
The Campbell Apartments for happy hour/cocktails
No. 1 Tacos (It’s a block from GC) for a quick bite.

At 30 Rock area
Pebble Bar for Cocktails / 6th & 49th

Nice!

We were planning to go the Whitney (never been), MoMA, Guggenheim and the Met (depending on the temporary exhibitions).
We'll have 9 days, so plenty of time.
You could also just do a day trip to Greenpoint to hit up some record shops, get some Peter Pan donuts/baconeggandcheese for breakfast and wander around.
