The Shadracks – Time Slips Away b/w Hollow And Uncertain
I signed up for the Sub Pop Singles Club in order to get the Irreversible Entanglements 7" but haven't listened to any of the rest before now so I figured I'd throw this most recent one on.
Detroit Cobras "What More / I Could Go Back" (2018 Third Man Records)
I'll play this as a tribute of sorts. I believe this ended up being the last release by the Detroit Cobras before Rachel Nagy's passing at the beginning of the year.
The song from the week of my actual birth year was Honky Tonk Women, but I'll go with this from 10 years later because I definitely remember this one. My sister and I played this one a ton back then.
Thus far, there have been just 8 non-English songs that have topped the Hot 100 (half that are blended with English & half completely non-English). "Volare" was the first to hit the top of the chart and is still the biggest hit of those 4 completely non-English #1s.
Day 3: "Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare)"
play a non-English record or an artist born in a non-English-speaking country
Autour de Lucie - Immobile
I first heard Autour de Lucie on a Wallpaper Magazine cd in the late 90's (Chanson San Issue - Snooze remix) I've been waiting all this time for Immobile to get a vinyl release and it finally came out a few weeks ago! Great stuff here for fans of Stereolab, Air, etc.
ETA the record is in French!
Glad to see this prompt today! I get to spin this single that features a friend on it that I've been meaning to listen to. New band featuring members of Errortype: 11, Saetia, Helmet, others.
Attempt / Survivors ~ Educated Hips b/w Follow Me Chaos
An instrumental movie theme that topped the Hot 100 for 9 weeks (a record at the time that it tied with “Mack the Knife” and later “Hey Jude”), becoming the biggest instrumental hit in that chart’s history, as well as one of the top 30 biggest Hot 100 hits overall!
Father John Misty - I Love You Honeybee/I’ve Never Been a Woman
I almost never listen to my 45s because it’s just too much of a hassle for 2 songs lol. But I do love this one and gives me great memories of my first RSD
