Political Discussion

I mean you say this but I've already seen a ton of Hakeem Jeffries laying out how different the Democrats are from MAGA. I've seen Jasmine Crockett all over the place. I think the issue is the message doesn't break through because Democrats do things the right way. The right way doesn't push through any longer. Not when the media throws up every single Trump outrage bait message completely unchecked. They're yet again falling for his bullshit tactics because it drives outrage and views. Social media has won and we're all worse off for it. It's so easy to immediately flood the zone with bullshit outrage. Look at the LA wildfires and the attempts to paint this on Newsom. I don't know how you combat that and that's where I fear it's lost for a good while. Everything Trump said outside of this new stupid shit with Canada, Greenland, and Panama was said leading up to the election and people just flat ignored it. We now have people fine with imperialism because Trump wants it to happen. We may be just too far gone as a nation. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Sure, but if the party had an actual leader, they wouldn’t allow for Trump to suck all the oxygen out of the room. I am sure Jeffries and Crockett are saying and doing the right thing but if no one is paying attention it doesn’t matter.

Hakeem Jeffries (and Schumer) also shared a stage with both rabid antisemite, racist, and climate denier John Hagee and Mike Johnson a matter of months ago to cheerlead Israel's genocide.

If by dems doing things the "right" way, you mean being less overt about their imperialist, for-profit goals so its easier for us to ignore, then sure.

Go back and read what I wrote as I knew some on here would seize on "right way".

The President is supposed to be the leader of the party but we know he's not up for the task. Who fills that void after 1/20, that's anyone's guess and I agree with you on that. They do need someone to step up and be that voice. Jeffries and Schumer are it for a time. But if they don't go firebrand like Trump, it's simply not going to break through.

I read it, and my point is that doing evil shit with decorum and class has the same effect as doing evil shit like an asshole. Arguably it's worse, because now no one is buying it.

Saying people are just now "okay with imperialism because of Trump" ignores years of history. People have always been okay with imperialism here. Just because it was being ordered by professionals and not barely coherent sundowners doesn't make it different.

I'm not saying social media hasn't made things worse - it has - but to so many liberals, it's only about optics. Both Obama and (especially) Biden shared several policies with or didn't roll back policies Trump passed, but because they weren't outwardly shitheads, they're okay with it. They hate Trump because he tore down the curtain and not because of the actual shit he does.

I was just reading, I think a Time article that Apple News sent me, how in 2025 Elon Musk will be sticking his nose into European politics. Wasn't clear what his agenda is yet, but it does sound like he will try to challenge the EU on a lot of their stuff.

Probably because he knows they can reign in Twitter so he'll try to take them apart from the inside like he did with Trump.

He’s already got his snout into British politics but his interventions so far have been a bit all over the place and not taken all that seriously.

The EU having to warn America not to infringe its sovereign borders is not a thing I thought I’d have to cross off on my geopolitical bingo card during my lifetime….

So far in the uk and germany he is openly campaigning for the far-right parties

His intervention in Britain is weird. Kinda teasing support for Reform who are kind pretty right but then supporting a fascist in prison and then turning on Trump’s creepy little pal Farage over it.

That’s not to mention his whole weird episode with the grooming gangs issue.
