Political Discussion

it's officially, fully, over in Georgia

I know the different states have different dates for certification to take place but I wonder if it’s easier in a GOP controlled State to get the results certified because there was no Democrats to act as guard rails. Like The GOP in MI, WI, PA have divided state governments which allows to GOP to act a fool knowing that the Dems are there to prevent the the election results from being thrown out. The GOP can say they attempted to overthrow the will of their constituents to curry favor with Trump and placate their base knowing it won’t actually happen where if the GOP leaders in AZ and GA also went along crazy bad shit might actually happen (or at the very least go to the courts).

Marriott Hotels have been in the news a lot this week in the Boston area.

All furloughed workers have now been permanently laid off. An additional 200 workers were also just laid off as business has not returned and the government bailout funding has been depleted.

There is a lot of anger and more than 100 workers who were just laid off formed a picketing line outside the hotel today.

The workers claim the layoffs violate their union rights. They didn't lay people off in terms of seniority and those that were laid off got no guarantee to be hired back when the pandemic is over. They would also lose all their seniority. They say this violates their union contract.

To make matters worse, those who were furloughed back in March who are now permanently laid off, their unemployment is running out in just over a week.

One women they interviewed had 39 years of seniority at Marriott. At her age there aren't really any job opportunities for her. And she doesn't know what she is going to do when her unemployment ends in just over a week.

Found this article hilarious even though I find this sentence extremely dubious:

Even a nation hooked on drama does not want to see a US president dragged out the front door, noncompliant-airline-passenger style, as Ivanka grasps his hands and Melania looks on.

Incorrect article. I would love nothing more than to see him dragged out the front door like a screaming toddler.

He's gonna go to Mar-a-Lago for Christmas/New Year's holiday and never come back.

Ha, the best part of the article is that they interviewed experts such as animal control, toddler whisperer, and dog trainer.

“If I have a dog that is in a crate and does not want to come out, I would use a lure,” said Martin Wright, the owner of Argos Dog Training in Dorchester.

But some dogs are tricky, he said. “They come out of the crate, grab the food, and go back in. So we make adjustments, we close the crate door quickly, or we move the food further away.”
