Pre-Order Thread

Are these generally good quality or AAA? Any idea on mastering? The Rocktober pressings are quite nice but don’t think I have any from this series
It's a crapshoot. The Talking Heads titles have been well done. I'd be really surprised if Rhino puts out poor Dire Straits pressings, given their typical fanbase, but no guarantees. The recent Faith No More pressing was PANNED, but the Jane's Addiction from the same "Rocktober" series was the best pressing yet of that album. It can be hard to find pressing info prior to the titles hitting the stores, as well.

Yea--I like the Rocktober pressings from what I have. The Love Forever Changes (with debate about if it's a fold down mono or not) sounds great to me for the price. Bernie Grundman cut it. And the T Rex Electric Warrior from a few years ago was an AAA Kevin Gray cut. Wasn't sure if the Start Your Ear Off Right had a similar track record.

I think it's about the same as all Rhino presses. Some are great and some are ok. It's hard to know until someone gets a look at the deadwax. Wasn't as big of a problem when you didn't have to worry about them selling out right away.

I recently picked up The Flaming Lips Transmissions From The Satellite Heart and their mono reissue of Love’s Forever Changes from the last Rocktober releases and both of those were top notch as well.

The Love pressing is really nice especially for $20 or whatever it was. I debated picking up some of the Talking Heads pressings but my OGs sound pretty great. I'm always tempted though...

Jesus, another repress of Dires Straits. I didn’t know there were that many people across the world with insomnia!
I buy two syeor and Rocktober every year. Even with Talking Heads and KD Lang, I was seriously contemplating starting the Dire Straits catalog. All I really know is money for nothing, but enough people who i respect the taste of are into them that I am fairly certain at some point, I will be taking the plunge.

Fair enough. I find them very plodding tbh but equally they didn’t need a new repress, there must be at least 3 different versions of these already in print!

Meh... marketing. Profit! (Read: record collectors are an easy mark)

Ah yeah I get it but equally so much stuff I want out of print and to see yet another average 70s/80s standard getting repressed for the gazilionth time is dispiriting. There are people below the “grey dollar” now who have the means and want to buy their own eras stuff on vinyl too.
