Pre-Order Thread

As a person from Connecticut, I have a newfound interest in this band's name - especially since they're seemingly from Canada. What is the newfound interest in CT? I mean, we have Pez and P.T. Barnum; great pizza and Yale; Paul Simon and Martha Stewart. Okay, I get. These things deserve an album about them.
Another CT guy here and the name caught me. Quickly had a listen for a min or two and pre-ordered; going to risk it.

I read on the Sophie's Floorboard blog that the name of the band and album is about a lover in Connecticut or something like that.

That's Emo for ya!

Growing up the only thing I really new about Connecticut is that my dad would go there for the Schemitzun Powwow back in the 90's when it was mega popular and trying to be the biggest Powwow in the United States. It's significantly died down since then.

I grew up in Trumbull, CT and there was a kid I went to high school with who was big into the pow wow circuit. He did Native American dance and had a legit teepee in their backyward. For complete context he was a white dude who wore a lot of tie-dye but boy did he love his pow wows.

And as long as we're talking Midwestern emo, the name of what was always my favorite Get Up Kids song, off their second 7" from '97, is "A Newfound Interest in Massachusetts." I kind of doubt that's a coincidence, but maybe.

Yeah I'm native. I used to fancy war dance until I messed up my back after college. My dad and a bunch of his local powwow buddies all would fly there for the powwow. What made Oklahoma and other state dancers travel all the way over there was that the Mashantucket Pequot tribe who owned this gigantic casino called Foxwoods I think.

Anyway they were raking in lots of money and they wanted to show off their success so they heavily promoted the powwow back then and got a ton of powwow folk to go there and make it look like a huge deal. They would have at least 15 places in all the dance categories for men, women, elders, and children.

My dad has been a dancer since the 70s and he was able to get in the top ten there for his category and being home good cash ha ha.

They don't really do that anymore. Not like back then. Nowadays the biggest Powwow is Gathering of Nations in Albuquerque.

Yes, it's Foxwoods. The other big CT Tribe casino is Mohegan Sun. We're not a big state but I grew up in southern CT, close to NYC. Northern part - where casinos are - is Mass/RI adjacent (think UCONN area) so I never went to either of the casinos till I came back to the state after turning 21. By that time I'd been living in Vegas so casinos really had no allure for me.

But...I got to see Buddy Guy play for free at Foxwoods, so it served its purpose.

There are 2 Lightnin' Hopkins releases for April

Anybody has an idea of the source for these re-issues? I'm not familiar with the label (P-Vine). Both copies are pretty pricy though! I wish MD would state info about the records they sell, like source, pressing plant etc...

Edit: p-Vine seems to be a Japanese label. @Skalap maybe you're familiar with them?

For some reason at UDiscover it’s automatically putting a $5 off coupon in for me and won’t let me try any of the usual codes. Any idea how to get that code out of there?

Damn, thank you. Was real close to ordering the Magnolia variant but I like this one more. Wonder what VMPs will look like.
Real pumped for this one
