Pre-Order Thread

More awesome Psychedelic Shoegaze. Vinyl limited to only 75 copies for America.

How do Plaid Room prevent seam splits? Genuine question, I'm not sure what they do.

Plaid Room uses sturdy oversized boxes with full rolled ends but then......

1st the covers are always form fit into the sturdy boxes with light weight bubble wrap tightly around the covers on all sides. Then any space on top front and back of covers is taken up with thicker bubble wrap or cardboard. Prevents any shifting for most rough handling. Just enough compression to keep vinyl from sliding and splitting most covers.

As the orders get bigger the shipping boxes get sturdier. Large orders are often double boxed or with a form fit cardboard spacer. Inner box/section packed like above. Sometimes with multiple bubble wrapped packets of 3 or 4 lps each. Then the inner section is nestled on egg crates to take up top and bottom space.

No shifting, friction fitting, energy absorbing, and crush space. Very few seam splits. Maybe 3% (3 out of 100) at most and they are usually minor. Corner damage just doesn’t happen unless it falls off a truck and gets backed over.

Plaid Room’s packing is a beautiful thing. If I ever get to their store I am buying the shipping department a round of lattes.

I am familiar with shoegaze, but I never really got it until I heard this one I guess

I don't know how you feel about Pitchfork, but they did a good job with this list and it has all the essentials.

Agreed! This is where i started my journey.

EDIT: some of my personal favorites include...MBV, swervedriver, slowdive, yo la tengo, DIIV, and swirlies.

On the flip side, when I specifically request an ebay seller pack used records properly outside the sleeves and they tell me they know what they are doing, don't worry about it, and the 40 year old pristine custom inner arrives completely shredded, I file a complaint as it is 100% their fault for ignoring my request.

Ebay and Discogs sellers are another whole issue. I always ask them to use a sturdy oversized mailer, not thin 12x12, and remove used vinyl from cover. I often offer to pay an extra shipping charge to cover their added cost.

You have some really good packers. And then you have the other 25% to 50% who ignore your requests. When damage occurs the standard reply is “We send out hundreds of packages and seldom have an issue.” So you end up paying for a NM- cover that arrives in VG or VG- condition. :-).

For the vaporwave/chillwave fans out there. (Looking at you, @eatdogs.)

Fake Fever is Andrew Barnes (of Gifts From Enola). His debut FF album was released digitally and on cassette via business casual last April, and it's now getting released on vinyl as the premiere release of Kats Kill Records.

Fewer than 75 copies left between the two first-press variants (300 total, split equally between blue marble and translucent orange).

Well, Lent ends tonight, which means I can buy records again! Honestly, though, this was much easier than I thought it would be and ended up being a really effective way to save money (and space on my already overstuffed shelves).

maybe it’s cheating though since things are so backed up that I still had records arriving throughout, haha. Still have 4 more preorders that I’m waiting on.

also, I may have cheated and ordered one of those Zavvi bundles out of curiosity but it didn’t really feel like cheating since I have no idea what I’ll actually be getting (and I plan to give a few of them away to friends that saw that pixar movie and are now curious about jazz).

i did make a list though of things i would have definitely ordered or pre-ordered, which came to 10 albums and I honestly probably will only buy 5-6 of them now.

There's definitely something to be said for giving that initial impulse time to settle. (y)

This is really good. I see that Pad Chennington is putting this out. I follow his YouTube channel. I'll have to save this to my wish list and pick it up soon!
