The Alchemist’s new project drops 4/30. Why are these so expensive???View attachment 96757
This is the current state of vinyl collecting in the underground hip-hop community. Lots of stuff dropped is premium priced, super limited and sells out fast. I don’t fault them, as their process works but it’s a super expensive rabbit hole to travel down. If I spent too much time in the Hip-Hop thread I would have to take out a 2nd mortgage on my house.

I will say most of the time these releases hold/appreciate in value once they sell out. So if your not feeling a release you can usually move it pretty easily.
Yeah, I don't really fault them either. It's a niche luxury hobby that has enjoyed a brief time in the mainstream limelight. If Joe Blow can sell records on discogs for $300, then I guess them selling for $50 to get a few extra bucks for the artists is fine by me. Plus, it just makes it easier for me to cull my collection.

Oh yeah I definitely understand that, but I don’t usually like to cop a record with that kind of thought in mind. Sort of ruins the fun in it if for me sometimes.
I don't pick up releases with the main intent of selling but it makes it a ton easier to swallow (and click buy) when you know that you could turn it around if it's not your cup of tea. Plus, you don't have time to sit and think it over with some of these releases.

Yeah, that is more what I was referring to than straight flipping. It’s easier on the wallet to buy it at retail then if it’s not your bag sell it for at least retail than to hold off, watch it sell out, decide you love it, then pay up the nose on the secondary market.

😆 You guys see this? Move fast if you want one, only a couple left! It makes sense given his history, but definitely a first.

In addition to vinyl, CD, picture disk and digital formats, the album will be available as a special and limited cellphone edition. Hearkening back to the way Moctar's music originally spread and proliferated across the Sahara via word-of-mouth Bluetooth mobile phone swaps, this collector's edition of Afrique Victime arrives pre-loaded onto a classic Nokia 6120 handset and specially mastered for it. Disclaimer: You can only make calls on this phone in countries that have 2G coverage (not US). The phone does not include a sim card and the headphone port is 2.5mm

I had picked this up when it was first released a few years ago. With the blow-out volumes on this album, I’m not certain I would be able to tell what’s a good pressing or not
Yeah, it’s a weird one. It seems to fluctuate between be dirt cheap and readily available to hard to find and super expensive. I think I picked it up from Amazon for like $14 the last time. My guess it will be reissued again soon the price is getting pretty high again.
