Pre-Order Thread

Static X - Machine 20th anniversary, signed, multiple limited variants

Edit: I hopped on this like stink on a love dump!

I'll see myself out.
Takes me back to some fun times in high school. Those few and far between good times.

Edit: I ordered the nice blue copy. Says only 500 made. So excited! I still rock some Nu-Metal from my personal favorites.

I went with the red one! I saw them on this tour in Denver, definitely takes me back.

Good to know. I wonder if they ever do international shipping on these obi-added exclusives. I'm not familiar with Assai, and I was gonna splurge on international shipping for this amazing album until I saw they only ship to UK addresses.
They are one of my local stores and are very good, but as already mentioned the only difference with the OBI editions is the addition of the OBI strips.

They’re releasing the new Hamish Hawk album this Friday on their in-house label (Hamish also works in the Edinburgh branch). BBC 6 Music have been giving the three singles a lot of plays.

I hope they have better luck with the pressing than Pure Phase. Went through 3 copies and just gave up.

Oh no! I feel lucky to have a clean one then! Either that or it’s loud enough, and I cranked it enough, that the music drowned it out. I was expecting a real shit show too with glow in the dark vinyl. What compounds it too is that these are not at the cheap end of the scale for records!

I think the variants doesn’t help them but tbh they’re a really fun and interactive live act and, for me, that never fully translated itself onto their recorded stuff which is kinda just ok.
Yea--I saw them perform at a record store and they are the nicest guys ever and fun live. They took the time out to talk to every single person in the audience before the show and then signed anything and everything afterwards. I bought their record that day but have barely spun it. I agree they are more fun live. I can't on hate them really. Also I figure that the label is the one pushing all the variants. They keep selling out so why not keep pressing them?

It just feels like FOMO creation and I’ve never really liked that. Just keep a variant in press as the standard or even, shock horror, a standard black once the initial variant(s) sell out?

I get it’s not the band and is likely label/management but when your name is on it you have to accept some responsibility no?

That said at this stage it’s more just a kinda running joke than anything else. Particularly as they have spent nearly 3 years repressing their debut with no sign of any new music.

I mean their hit song warned us about all these different colors after all.

The strategy seems to be smaller represses in different colors which is pretty clever and as long as they have the capacity, it's really not a big deal to me. If you have one you like to just let them flow by. In many ways, I feel like it's a lot less FOMO-y than other variant methods since you can be pretty confident that even if you sleep on a variant, in three months there will be another cool variant you can get or that the after-market options will be so diluted that it'll be hard to really price every single variant at too much of a premium.

I'll say I certainly like this more than pre-order induced panic trying to figure out which of the three variants is the one you want and then getting the music eight months later in a different color because they couldn't deliver on what was promised. There is also something kind of nice about knowing more precisely when a pressing occurred in case there is a defective run or situations improve (like I think the more recent 6131 Sprained Ankle pressings have fewer issues than earlier ones from Discogs reports)

Now there is a real argument that the Black Pumas are taking up pressing plant time and resources they shouldn't be which I'd find to be a fair criticism.
