Pre-Order Thread

Got the same update, and was a bit surprised. That said, you have to tip your cap - a nice gesture for sure.

Iā€™ve had trouble with UDiscover CS so this is an unexpected surprise. Now I just have to decide ā€œIf you have any questions or would prefer not to receive the free vinyl, please respond to this email for further assistance.ā€ Do I want the free vinyl or not? šŸ¤”

I can also vouch for the store, Mill City Sound that is behind this...great local store - probably my favorite in the Twin Cities. This is their first reissue via the Backgroove label, so no track record, but I would trust them to do this right...
Except their cart/web page doesn't really work. And it's trying to charge me tax.

Lol
this has been happening more and more lately. VMP sends out the FOMO emails saying only x amount left of an anthology, then it pops up at various other outlets for sale. GD, Stax, and others were for sale at Acoustic Sounds too.

I canā€™t figure out how to ship this thing for the life of me haha
Same. Saw someone mention just hitting the local pickup even though it's charging more for shipping, then putting a comment in that says to ship. I just really don't want to pay tax also when we don't have it. I might call tomorrow.

Yeah, lot of interesting potential there. But it wonā€™t let me check out. So hrm.
You have to select ā€œshippingā€ before adding it to your cart and itā€™ll change the price of the record to include the shipping cost. When youā€™re checking out, it wonā€™t let you finalize until you select ā€œpick up in store.ā€ Someone on Reddit said itā€™s a work around and it should still be shipped appropriately.

Interesting. Maybe Iā€™ll try that.

edit: he tried that and it worked. Looks like they added those instructions to the order page as well.

Soul Step Announces SSR-081!

Soul Step Records are back again with ANOTHER vinyl release from ANOTHER incredible independent artist. Weā€™re back to celebrate the upcoming release of a new bedroom pop classic, Modern Nomadā€™s ā€œBardo.ā€

Modern Nomad is the musical recording project / band of Baltimore Marylandā€™s own Tom McLean. Modern Nomad has been releasing some beautiful and lush arranged pop music since 2015 and continues to grow his fanbase with each and every drop. Modern Nomad records and mixes sounds that are heavily influenced by Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys.

On ā€œBardo,ā€ Modern Nomad is a project recorded during the 2020 quarantine and Modern Nomad develops recurring emotional themes of falling in love and personal growth due to the pandemic. All the good and all the bad.

We are so pleased to bring you this record. Not only are you getting the incredible indie pop of ā€œBardo,ā€ but this particular vinyl gets you something very special! On the B-Side you get EXCLUSIVE instrumentals, demos, and acoustic versions of ā€œBardo.ā€ These are exclusive to the Soul Step Records vinyl release and are a treat to see the depth of work that goes into Modern Nomadā€™s music and production.

The Soul Step Records Subscriber release will be on Saturday, September 18th and the general public sale will begin on Monday, September 20th. The tracks on this LP can be found on streaming on all services right now.

The Tragically Hip's Road Apples 30th Anniversary box set includes Saskadelphia, Hoof-Hearted (another album of demos and rarities from the era) and, most excitingly(!), Live at the Roxy (May 3rd, 1991) which features the beloved "Killer Whale Tank" version of "New Orleans is Sinking."
