Pre-Order Thread

I used to work at a help desk taking calls from physicians conducting clinical trials, and one of my favorite conversations of all time was with a doctor at PRINCETON who called me because our system wanted her to enter a patient's DOB in the format day/month/year, "and I only know the format monday/day/year! What do I do now?!"
Some people are REALLY good at ONE thing. I know a guy who's a brilliant Program Manager, understands the ins and outs of deploying networks and servers better than most in the business, and I work for Google, so that's saying something. I handed him a pocket knife and he could not figure out the mechanism to open it. It was fascinating.

I don’t think I’d want to be part of a clinical trial run by someone with that little initiative...

I have a dumb question: ¿How many variants of Bad Bunny's X 100PRE are there? I saw VMP's purple variant for $31. Then Amazon and UO have the yellow variant for $25. ¿Are there any other ones announced? Just wanting to make sure that I make a solid investment on these. ¡Thanks for the help!

@Joe Mac Can we get your assessment of the greatest part of American culture: tipping?

Call out your restaurant owners to ensure your service staff are sufficiently remunerated for their labour and allow tipping to be what it is actually for, a gratuity given by a customer as thanks and recognition for great service rather than them being obligated to do so because the service staff aren’t being paid properly and it’s topping up their wages!

Until they fix that minimum wage loophole I think there's a pretty slim chance of that.

There is one restaurant in my city that does this and they have a sign posted about it refusing tips and saying any tips given will go to charity. Never seen that anywhere else though.

I kind of don’t agree with that either. Even with a minimum wage it’s always going to be a poorly paid positions and if staff are good and aid in you enjoying your evening out then you should be able to offer them a gratuity which should go to them. My issue is with them being so poorly paid that it’s a convention/obligation that you always tip regardless of service level to allow them to earn a fair amount.

Well a "crazy extreme left" idea is that minimum wage shouldn't be below the poverty line. But, I'm just saying, I don't see the entire restaurant industry in the US raising their prices to pay all employees a living wage when they seem more than happy with the Federal minimum of $2.13. some states have passed higher ones but they are still low. I would rather that happen than government forcing it but it goes against the American way.

I agree that not allowing tipping is weird, but at least they are paying them enough that they were happy to work there as opposed to another restaurant I guess.

Yeah, I agree with your issue. I have a hard time deviating much from 20% because, with waiting experience myself, I feel bad even if the service is poor, so I might just give a little under and usually it is exceptional at very expensive places when I am already blowing my budget, so feel uncomfortable going too much higher. Exceptions in the middle of course.

I own 2 restaurants and my staff starts at $14/hr. People tip regardless. Some of these folks are making close to $20 an hour to walk folks to heir table. I’m happy to do it but it’s pretty absurd when I think about what I used to do in professional kitchens for like $7 an hour.

Yeah I mean I live in a country with a minimum wage and the move seems be towards the idea of a living wage. I still tip for table service 99% of the time because 99% of the time I get great service and want to say thanks. I like that it’s linked to that and not ensuring they’re properly paid and that it creates an understanding that the 1% shouldn’t get anything because they don’t deserve it!

The norm would be nearer 10% here tbh and I’m almost always happy to give it. The only exception is poor and rude service, in some ways I end up feeling really sorry for someone who is just a bit bad at their job...

If I could impart one piece of practical wisdom about clinical trials, it's that if your medicine is being infused or injected in the clinic, ask to see the vial or carton yourself before you allow the needle anywhere near you. Make sure you're getting what you're supposed to be getting.

In fact, that's probably good advice whether you're getting a blinded chemo infusion or your annual flu shot. A second pair of eyes is one of the greatest safety mechanisms there is.
Army medical officer: Mr. Simpson, you do realize this may result in hair loss, giddiness, and the loss of equilibrium.
Homer: Yeah, yeah, just gimme the serum.

I think this is only the 2nd time I’ve ever doubled up and ordered a record I already have a copy of. Got an OG but it’s pretty beat and this is easily one of my favorite albums of all time so I’m mad excited to have a fresh player copy. Order this album blind if you even remotely like ska, punk, or just really fucking good songwriting. You won’t regret it, this album is that good.

Damn, I might have to get that. Big nostalgia hit. I'm more familiar with the big comp they put out around when I saw them. Wore out like the first 20 minutes of it. Great angsty/depressed car screaming memories . Am I the only one that likes those ones like Sorry, We Steal, RSTLNE, Royal Fuck Deluxe, RADIO SINGLE. and Somebody Wrote This Song Already?

😂 love the John C. Reilly Magnolia excerpt at the end.

Definitely will be a headphone listen at the moment though.
