I didn’t know they were from Bremerton. I used to detassel during my summer breaks back in Illinois with a bunch of kids that went to the non-denominational Christian school and I remember them being super pumped when MXPX was playing at Cornerstone Music festival (the Christian Rock equivalent of Lollapalooza). I was not familiar but their selling point was that MXPX was like a Christian version of Blink182. That was not the selling point for me that they thought it was but they were definitely a big thing amongst the Awana set.

I don't know that I've ever listened to anything of theirs other than their On The Cover EP that I picked up back in high school for the cover of "Summer of '69." I listened to the EP again a couple of weeks ago and still love it, but don't know that I need or want to check anything else of theirs out.

Interesting. I'm from here, so I remember them way before ever hearing of Blink 182.

OMG I was in AWANA when I was a kid back when my parents were still married lol.

MxPx also played around here, so it's a regional thing. Plus, it was a weird era of clamoring for indie bands, in the greater Seattle area, especially.

I was listening to Halo Benders - God Don't Make No Junk yesterday and reminiscing about hearing "Don't Touch My Bikini" on KGRG back in the day, because I lived relatively close to Green River Community College. I remember hearing "new" bands like Modest Mouse on there for the first time. Sunny Day Real Estate actually made it into the rotation on 107.7 The End - big shot alternative radio with commercials.

i don't know how their popularity is by region but i know when i was a teen growing up not too far from the ATL, GA area with their Teenage Politics '95 album they had a pretty big following around here amongst teens, popularity got even bigger when they started showing their Chick Magnet video on MTV.Tooth & Nail records in the '90s in general was very liked around the U.S. had so many great artist/music coming from that label.

The Philadelphia Flyers have traded longtime captain Claude Giroux to the Florida Panthers, according to ESPN's Emily Kaplan.

Prospect Connor Bunnaman is also joining Giroux in Florida, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. Forward Owen Tippett is heading to the Flyers as part of the package.

The Panthers' package was competitive, but "not as aggressive as Boston or Colorado," per Kaplan.


Giroux was one of the top names available on the market heading into Monday's trade deadline. The 34-year-old center can be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and carries a cap hit of $8.275 million.

He logged 18 goals and 24 assists in 57 contests on a struggling Philadelphia squad this season. Giroux skated in his 1,000th game as a Flyer on Thursday night but was held out of Friday's contest versus the Ottawa Senators as trade rumors continued to heat up.

Giroux is VG, VG+ at best since he hasn't been reissued in years. But Bunnaman might be worth a preorder.

Yeah. No idea how their popularity reflects regionally, either. That is actually kind of what I'm saying.

They apparently, formed in 1992 and even Tooth & Nail is westcoast, so my comment was more in response to the idea of Illinois being behind in respect for me knowing them well before ever hearing of Blink 182. Living out here, it was more unavoidable, so I have no perspective on the span or timing of their reach outside of that, being so close to it.

I remember being at a Bob Dylan and Phil Lesh show at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin in 2000 and seeing some woman in a Sleater Kinney shirt. I was living in Olympia, at the time. Sleater Kinney is a street in Lacey, Wa with a taco truck we'd hit up between a Michaels and Joann Fabrics. I knew the band of course, but it still took me off guard.

I never “got” SF59, no idea why. The one guy in the Christian market who had a shot at mainstream success, Mike Knott (with Lifesavers Underground), got signed to Elektra by Seymour Stein, recorded a stellar album under the awful name Aunt Bettys, but unfortunately Stein was replaced at Elektra by Sylvia Rhone, who decided to let all of Stein’s new projects fail. And that is why nobody has ever heard the great album by Aunt Bettys.

their second covers EP was even better, covering Ramones "Bonzo Goes To Bitburg" and a ripper of "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" with Agent M of Tsunami Bomb.

Life In General and Slowly Going The Way Of the Buffalo are two outstanding punk albums- christian genre or not.
