At one point, Doug was actually interested in having J Mascis play drums for Built To Spill. He may have even proposed the idea to him, before quietly rescinding the invitation. He realized that he would probably have issues trying to tell Mascis what to do, because he's a notorious control freak and Built To Spill is Doug's Dinosaur, as far as him being in control of the direction of the project.
