I’m less of a fan of remixing the album. I would have preferred a second LP of demos.Cool but I'm not a fan of the new artwork.

I am fully on board with never ever ordering from Port of Sound again. God help you if you get a damaged record. The guy is a complete jerk.Well FML, just got an email that Port of Sound, cancelled my order for the clear pressings of Stereolab’s Dots & Loops and Emperor Tomato Ketchup. I am gonna reach out and hope my LRS got a few of each. If not, I guess I will cross my fingers and hope they have some available at their merch table during the upcoming live shows.
Listening to Monster for first time in ages and, well, it's very uneven, isn't it? There are some fantastic tracks - I love Tongue and Bang and Blame - but there's some pretty awful stuff too. I'll definitely pick up the 1 LP as it's REM. But on an initial listen (not A/Bing at all) I didn't detect a big difference with the remix of What's The Frequency Kenneth. I'd love for some of the live concerts from this and previous tours to come on vinyl as that's what I'd be most interested in...
The vocals definitely sound more front and center in the remix but not a huge difference. Live stuff would be great.Listening to Monster for first time in ages and, well, it's very uneven, isn't it? Rough Trade is pretty fair: You can just cancel the order and place a new one from the US.I impulse bought it immediately and paid $33 from the UK store
I've been revisiting Monster throughout the last year or so, and every time I listen to it I like it more. I understand why the production doesn't sit well with everyone, and I also get the criticism that it's too same-y overall, but I believe that if you stripped them down every song on there is rock-solid underneath the distortion. I'd also argue that, lyrically speaking, it's Stipe's best album ever. Hi-Fi will always be special to me because of the particular time & place in my life when it came about (Monster will too for that matter, to a lesser extent), but at this point it's every REM fan's favorite REM record and I'm now convinced that Monster is criminally underrated.Listening to Monster for first time in ages and, well, it's very uneven, isn't it? Bad timing for VMP if their next Anthology is Motown.

No it's pretty cool. I probably would have gotten one if I hadn't already bought one of the smelly Monster tour shirts they dug out of a warehouse somewhere. That t shirt isn't bad looking.
