It still seems really expensive as it's $40 with shipping.

Seems like mostly the going rate these days. Thankfully I don't like many major artists.
I semi like Feist but definitely not $40 worth and I'm not a fan of the clear variant. The target exclusive of the boygenius album is one of the only albums from a major label artist I will own in my collection apart from blue weekend by wolf alice and rumors by fleetwood mac. I really wanted the blue variant but I wasn't spending almost $40 for a single lp even though the packaging is nice. If there wasn't a target variant I would have just ordered it from Amazon. I wish they were still signed to matador records but I'm guessing the only reason they are signed to a major label is because of Phoebe Bridgers. I don't want to support major labels because of how much they charge for albums but I love everybody in Boygenius so I had to buy the album. If it were $25 or $26 before shipping and around $30 - $32 that would still be a lot but I'd be ok paying that but not much more than that. I wish major labels weren't so greedy but they charge the high prices becauase they know that people will pay those prices. I can't think of a major label artist who doesn't charge a ridiculous price for their albums. If a album is going to be $40 for a single lp then I can usually live without it.

I love Feist, but $40 for a single clear LP is a little ridiculous.
It’ll be cheaper elsewhere eventually. Clear is the indie exclusive I believe. It’s $30 elsewhere and likely will be available at places like Plaidroom with free shipping or places with discount codes. There’s also a plain black version if you don’t care about the color variants

It’s somehow more palatable with reissues that are of audiophile quality (especially compared to $125!), but for new releases it’s hard to accept.
That’s a great distinction and I agree. I don’t buy a ton of new music on vinyl anymore and the price point is probably why…I’ll buy new albums if I know the records are pressed somewhere good/cut by someone good. There are only a small number of current bands and artists that I’ll buy vinyl from without hearing the full albums first.
