Both true. They did an expanded version in the early 2000s titled Teenage which is also out of print and even more expensive. I have a list of things like this that I want and will randomly search for. Keep an eye out, because sometimes I get crazy lucky.

I randomly Googled it one day, as I would occasionally do, and saw there was a copy on Thriftbooks. I ordered it expecting it would probably get canceled. It showed up and in pretty much perfect condition for being over 40 years old.

Another expensive photography book that I was lucky to stumble across in amazing condition for super cheap is this one.




Along with smoking kids are street kids with guns, flipping people off, etc. This photography complements the documentary of the same name about youth surviving the mean streets of Seattle in the 80s.

Mary Ellen Mark was great. Although it's not in Streetwise, she shot one of the most iconic juvenile with a cigarette images of all time.
