R.I.P. VMP Forum

Well, shit. All this talk of how evil Amazon is has me wondering what I'm really doing by buying from them over VMP. Like the latest exclusive, I pre-ordered Joel Ross from Amazon even though it would have been the same price to order from VMP with my credit. I was thinking at least if it comes fucked up I know it will be made right and the way they have been treating us makes me feel like I don't ever want to give them business again. But did I just take my money from an organization that may be seriously misguided and not very well-run, to give money instead to a company that treats their employees like cattle and is squeezing out small businesses worse than Walmart (which I never shop at)? What the fuck am I doing? Maybe the answer is to buy straight from places like Bull Moose?
yep. and bull moose has outstanding customer service, goes out of their way to special order from me if i ask (and i live across the country), AND a loyalty program. definitely the best option when possible

Here's an example: What are the ethics of shipping discs of processed petroleum all over the country in the first place?
To clarify. Companies that aren't horrible to their workers/ don't employ deceitful business practices/have a solid track record, etc.

I quit VMP today. I was due to renew 6/1 but $400 for a year of Classics just seems too much when I don't really like the soul picks that much. I'm just at the stage in my record collection where I don't feel like I need their curation anymore. I have to admit that the forum disappearing and the change to replacement policy (which admittedly I've only had to use twice I think in three years) has made the decision a lot easier.

i'm from the outside looking in (never used VMP service. how many records does $400 a year get you?) but from that screenshot from the Fiedler guy a couple of pages back, the "pain that inspires growth" bit was kind of an eye opener. One read of that could be "we need to cut the dead whinging wood out to regenerate our business".

I wonder if one fatal flaw in their business plan was, having started 6 years ago, they obviously weren't able to foresee how crappy the represses of today are with their warps, pop, shady mastering etc. and the ensuing issues with irate customers...

What changed about their replacement policy?

check @TimmahTao ’s status from yesterday- no cosmetic damage replacement and extra dismissive language that isn’t cute on a company that acts like it cares about customer experience!
also they will hold you to how many replacements you have gotten. the curious thing about that email is that 8 replacements in 30 days just means that there was a large order and lots of the order was jacked. plain and simple just have more quality control...
