Rank The Albums!

after one listen to the new one...

lana del rey: ultraviolence > norman fucking rockwell > born to die > chemtrails over the country club > paradise (ep) > honeymoon > blue banisters > lust for life > lana del ray aka lizzy grant > violent bent backwards over the grass

crazy to think she's up to eight studio albums and an ep plus an album of spoken word poetry in the space of nine years

the drones: gala mill > wait long by the river and the bodies of your enemies will float by > havilah > feelin kinda free > i see seaweed > the miller's daughter > here come the lies

In light of the new album, The War on Drugs:

5. Wagonwheel Blues: Rough around the edges but has its moments, bonus points for Kurt Vile presence.

4. Slave Ambient: Closer to what their signature sound would become, highlight track for me: I Was There.

3. I Don't Live Here Anymore: Excellent as an album, remains to be seen how some of these tracks will hold up on their own. More listens may bump this one up with time.

2. A Deeper Understanding: Their longest album to date, and it feels that way at times, but the atmosphere it creates is intoxicating all the same.

1. Lost In The Dream: It's not often a band comes along with a sound that is familiar like a broken-in pair of shoes yet feels fresh and timeless at the same time. A nearly flawless album that will stand the test of time.

I would swap 2 with 3 but otherwise great list 😁

I'd say:

1. Lost In The Dream
2. I Don't Live Here Anymore
3. A Deeper Understanding
4. Slave Ambient
5. Wagonwheel Blues

But I'd definitely put them as passing the 5 album test.

the war on drugs: wagonwheel blues > lost in the dream > slave ambient > [future weather (ep) >] i don't live here anymore > a deeper understanding

gotta say, i find them waaaaaaaaay too dire straits these days; the last three albums have been more or less interchangeable to me and all the edges have been completely buffed out

mastodon: crack the skye > blood mountain > once more 'round the sun > the hunter > hushed and grim > leviathan > emperor of sand > remission

new album is gooooooood

Here’s my Beach House list from a few months back…
Teen Dream
Bloom
Devotion
Beach House

Thank Your Lucky Stars

Mitski and Big Thief are alright. I’ve enjoyed their music enough to download it and include certain tracks on playlists but None of their albums as a whole has ever clicked with me. Maybe some day.

I shared mine a page or two ago, with Thank Your Lucky Stars as my #1. A true contrarian pick!

I like Mitski somewhat (I have her last two albums) but not enough to blind buy her next release. And I absolutely do not get Big Thief, like, at all. Their sound does nothing for me and I am repulsed by their whole aesthetic.
